But they are over a weekend when the majority of the population are not at work, school or college so can generally make the decision to stay out of bed and watch.

The reality is it is pretty easy to match up games staged in Oz with decent UK times, harder the other way.

10am is great, if it was Saturday it wouls be perfect.

Yes, but if you want to promote fans to watch the game at a party or BBQ 1:30 am Sunday starting time is not going to work for the Final.

The opening game was at 12:30 am Sunday hardly a great set up for a weekend with the family.

I would rather have an annual leave day to watch it than get to sleep a 4 or 5am

Anyway, it is always going to be difficult with the time zones.

I think Australia has more thoughts on covering their cost than 40-80,000 English fans watching the game at 10am on a Saturday morning.

If I was what you describe I would only have one office, I have a lot of flexibility in my job.  ;)

In 2008 Eng v Aus got 267k viewers on a Saturday on Sky TV.

This game at 10am on BBC would have far exceeded that.

Things like this are why we dont command great tv deals.

I do not think the Test match TV numbers are a big deal in the scope of things.

There are hardly any Test's played and most involving England are played in England anyway.

How many watched England V Samoa? ;)

It wasnt on tv.

We know that recent numbers on the BBC have been very encouraging, up to a couple of million.

People want to watch. We just make it really hard for them to do so!

I know it wasn't on TV, the question is why, was it worth two parts of ###### all? even free coverage would have helped the Fans watch a test match instead of going for the gouge.

Were the figures ever published for the streaming subscriptions? It was the next worst RL decision than the pictures of Players on a Transport Company's Vans in lieu of paying a sponsorship amount of the game.

Im not sure of the point. TV rights should be massive. Instead we #### about with fixtures and tournaments and things like excluding one of your 2 key markets for the WC opener is not a good move.

It has been awful for years and is showing no signs of improving.

Time zones aside, there are definitely some matches that clash with each other and that should have been avoided

And unfortunately with our super awesome Premier Sports deal it means that we are unlikely to get every game broadcast live, unless they use the FreeSports platform to broadcast some.

It is very different to other sporting events. Most major sports tournaments will try and cater for their core audiences where possible. There are two key markets here - Aus and England.

In the game where they meet you really would expect it to be on the Saturday.

In the last WC here iirc all of Australia's games were at a weekend Oz time.

Of course it wont always be possible to cater for the markets, but decisions like this affect the tv rights value as the viewing figures on a Friday morning on the BBC will be far lower than a Saturday.

In 2003 all of England RU's games were Sat or Sunday. These things matter.

Lucky we sold ours for b*gg** all then

Cheers, so it basically looks like only the England games will be on. Everything else hidden from the casual sports fan. How very rugby league.

The RFL sold 2 World Cups to premier sports as an exclusive broadcast. But saying this was an insane decision is just bagging them. So I won't ;)

Just the 3 England Group games, England QF, England Semi and Final.

Actually one game less than 2013 as they at least showed the Wales v Italy game live then.

Load of rubbish.

Hopefully we will get a decent highlights show though at a decent time, but I wont hold my breath.

I think if England were to win the first game they may show both semis. They have the option but I'm not holding my breath.

Why do you think tgat?

Because the expectation will be higher that England will be in the final. I would hope (fingers crossed) the BBC would get on board and take up the option to cover the Aus v NZ (likely) other semi. They have the option according to the agreement. I think it may be wishful thinking though.

The highlights show is broadcast every Friday during the WC at 10am Dave.

This months Forty 20 magazine quoted a figure of 1,600 subscribers for the England v Samoa game.

Am I right in thinking the BBC have the rights to stream all the matches online?

EDIT: I'm thinking of 2021

No bagging allowed?  In that case I can't answer Allora's previous question of why the Samoa match wasn't on TV.
