PeterF
More like 54 quid when you add on the vat. £108 quid for me and my wife to listen to a boxer. No thanks.

HomeOfTheTubularBandage
Hey, Crolla is a top bloke by all accounts and a former world champion, heading for another title shot. He may be a great speaker. Celebrating other Oldham sports stars is potentially a great idea. Putting on a boxing event for rugby fans is maybe ok, if it's one of a number of events through the year. But selling the main gala evening and RUGBY season review as a boxing event? Mistake! Both the rugby club and Crolla deserve their own focus. Maybe businesses will fill the event and make the club a bit of cash? But it's not great for engaging the average fan. Should be two separate events. More money for the club. Less angry fans. But at £54 a ticket (plus transportation and drinks) you guys were never the intended audience for this event. If you wanna go, a lounge suit is just a standard two/three piece suit. I bet you've all got one for weddings, funerals and christenings. It's not like hiring a full penguin outfit dinner suit.

Your right mate,it's not great for engaging the average fan.Plus I along with others are more jeans and t-shirt than suit. What more could we expect really?.When the club announced they would be having some sort of bash,I had a feeling it'd be something like this, defo not for engaging with the rank and file. Dave Naylor
ORSA are running a competition to win a ticket to the Gala Dinner (this Friday). All you have to do is identify the player in the graphic below and submit your entry at this URL: https://roughyeds.co.uk/gala-dinner/orsa-competition/ Don't post your answer in this thread. The way it's written online reads that EVERYONE who successfully identifies the player will win a ticket. Is that the case? If not, and there is only ONE ticket available to win - for which there will be a random draw from all correct entries - then the method, terms and conditions need to be made clear. Otherwise, legally, everyone who gets it right can claim a free ticket. Is there just one ticket to be won?

Dave Naylor
There's a second competition on the club site now. Answer a tough question for the chance to win one of ten single tickets. https://roughyeds.co.uk/2017/10/win-tickets-to-our-20th-anniversary-gala-dinner/

HomeOfTheTubularBandage
So....win a ticket. ONE? Give away one ticket, and the winner will have to either attend a gala dinner alone or fork out £54 for a second ticket. How dumb do they think we are? Anonymous donor? Not a desperate bloke with an empty venue then? This genuinely isn't aimed at Dave or others who give their time and expertise for next to nothing to support the club. And if these tickets have been donated by a supporter or sponsor then fair play. But if the club is offering single tickets as a prize, it's a bit crass and dumb. You'd get a lot more entries and social media impressions/reach for pairs of tickets than for ten singles. That can drive other interest and awareness - reaching those that may be willing to purchase.
sheddingswasus
What I still don't understand is the date for this event. It is in direct competition with the Ex Players dinner being held the same night. The date for this event is always the first week in November and was announced back at the start of the year. It has been virtually sold out since the start as it always is. To quote HOTTB is it "a bit crass and dumb" or do the club just not follow other events to do with RL in the town? roughyed34
I've heard off a few people that it was a good night and they enjoyed it. No idea how many attended overall. All I know, apart from the club statement about the night.
moorside roughyed
Good,I hope they did. It's just a shame they didn't try and reach out to as 34 said"the rank and file ".The whole suit thing, that's what puts me off going on a cruise.

Half man half grapefruit
Went to the ex-players' annual sportsmen's night instead with Malcolm Lord as Master of Ceremonies and Eorl Crabtree as guest speaker. Over 180 there - brilliant night, sat between Hugh Waddell and Ian Birkby.
Yed17
I went and it was a good evening. Anthony Crolla was great and the evening as a whole went well. Probably not as many as there were at the Past players do. But i think the price put many people off.
