Women's World Cup - Player of the Tournament

Recommended Posts

The elusive quest to be perfect is an aspiration Jillaroos five-eighth Ali Brigginshaw has ditched in favour of enjoyment on the footy field, and with stunning results.

Brigginshaw will line up in the women's World Cup final against New Zealand in Brisbane on Saturday in the best form of her life.

The 28-year-old has been included on the shortlist for the women's player of the tournament award with New Zealand stars Honey Hireme and Teuila Fotu-Moala. The winner will be announced on Wednesday at a luncheon in Brisbane.

Hireme has been scoring tries just to kill time and Fotu-Moala is definitely the "Taumalolo" of the women's game. Last NZ game, Hireme literally gave 2 tries away - she was standing in the in-goal and passed the ball to her captain for one.

New Zealand Kiwi Ferns back-rower Teuila Fotu-Moala has been crowned Women's World Cup player of the tournament in Brisbane on Wednesday.

RLIF Chief Executive David Collier made the announcement in front of a packed house at the World Cup Grand Final Lunch. All four World Cup final squads – the Australian men's and women's team, England's men side and New Zealand women's squad were in attendance.

Fotu-Moala played in three of four matches leading up to the Kiwi Ferns' World Cup final against the Jillaroos on Saturday.

Her standout performances provide enough to edge out Kiwi Ferns teammate Honey Hireme and Jillaroos playmaker Ali Brigginshaw, who were also shortlisted for the award.
