He did nowt for us when he could of made a difference when he was Minister of Sport.

You have harvested three likes but I think that is a lazy post. Apart from chuck us a bung or ban union, what should he have 'done'?

Think he was Secretary of State at DCMS for about 18 months. Olympics aside, can you name any sport for which a DCMS SofS has 'done something'?

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

He’s knows his way round claiming expenses too

As I recall there was one invoice that he had put through as expenses to the tune of less than a hundred quid , a clerical error , hardly having his moat cleaned

He is a socialist but understands the real world and what can and cannot be achieved

Don't like the guy, comes across as as very egotistical. Reinforces the northern stereotype. Not really sure what this brings

"Awareness" in high places.  In my view, this will only be of benefit if the RFL engage with him properly, not just as a name on a letterhead or web page.

He's a high-profile, well-connected figure, who probably has many organisations clamouring for his attention.

Well, If I was a minister of government I would have made sure that I was highly visible at our major events.

Now, I may be wrong but did  he ever present the CC at Wembley? I know that's by invitation but union have no problem getting royals to the forefront at their games. He has been a very high profile politician for a long time and I cannot remember him at our big events. If he has, well I apologise.

I also hope that now that he has a major role in RL that he does beat the drum for us and really puts himself about. He will certainly go up in my estimation if he does.

It would be a bad idea to have politicians from any party present the trophy is they would almost certainly be booed. Either when they are presented to the players or whenever they appeared on the screen.

Remember George Osborne at the Paralympics?

Does he get paid?  Surely that is the question.

????????

So far as I understood the position, when I asked about it 15 years ago, it is purely ceremonial.  An honour to be asked to do it; an occasional hand to shake; an occasional dinner invitation.

Super - doesn't really matter who it is so long as they are sufficiently well known and of good character, plus ..................

and in my view this is and ought always to be the essential, required plus ..............................

not just someone picking up a handy  `do little - or mostly do sod all'   `job'   with a  `collect rather more than you could ever be worth'  honorarium attached, to boost their retirement income.

Or even worse, someone making a second career out of collecting such `do little - or mostly do ............ etc honoraria.

Seems to me that these days the world is  full of them.

So have I, if you count the Council, the Police, HM Revenue and Customs and the Child Support Agency.

In fairness, he has been visible at some of our not so major events. How many other MPs have you seen go the length of the field to score in front of a crowd of at most a couple of hundred at Leigh?
