have no idea where that has come from... rather than slinging an insult in how about you tell me, from your vast experience of this sort of thing, where I am wrong?

It was not meant as an insult. I think I misread your comment la bit looking back at it.

I'm sure those page 3 'models' loved their job.

I'm sure those girls whose bras fell off and Benny Hill chased them on mainstream telly 35 years ago loved their jobs.

Again you are comparing this with soft core porn and prostitution which is a ridiculous analogy

Page 3 was not soft core porn and god knows what you think prostitution is.

Benny Hill was seen as lighthearted comedy at primetime.

But your point that people should be allowed to do this job because they love it is surely the same for Page 3 models.

If you support the withdrawal of Page 3, then it basically means you just want things banning that you don't like, which makes you as hypocritical as those you are challenging.

The only roles that have been pulled here are the 'modelling' jobs for pretty girls standing near the men doing the sport. Most sports have decided to never go down that route.

I generally agree with what you are saying and I personally haven't an issue with grid girls (and I am sure they do more than just stand there looking pretty, as I said right at the beginning the Radio 5 programme was really interesting).. but I also completely understand why people do have an issue and much of it is because the perception of them is not true to reality. F1 have decided to side step the argument. I also think there is a huge argument (as the grid girl on the programme also stated) that the idea it should be just girls on the grid is outdated... again F1 has side stepped this issue..

even through the programme I was undecided on whether they should stay or go.. F1 have decided that they dont want the argument anymore and are stepping away from it.. thats also fine and I can understand why they are doing it.. the arguments for keeping them are weak IMHO as none of the arguments mean only good looking girls can/should do the job, the arguments for getting rid of them arent very strong either becuase they miss a lot of what these people are doing, however, again none of this has to be done by good looking 20-30 year old girls.

IMHO the key is that none of what they do cannot be done by people other than good looking 20-30 year old girls and as such something needed to give.. F1 have then made a hash of the announcement. Obivously they needed to lose the term "Grid Girls" to be able to do any of this but they arent losing the job they do on the gird and its that mishandling that has caused much of this.

You compared it to a strip club a few pages back.

Page 3 was exactly soft core porn.

I think we should watch Nigel dance semi naked at the grand final for his 500K, I think I may feel better about the whole situation

I can confidently say I wouldnt... I dont think "feel better" is a very good way of describing how I would be feeling at all...

I think this is spot on.

I think sports, and forms of entertainment make their own choices about how they present themselves, and Darts and F1 have decided to move away from these things, in part through pressure from partners.

I don't feel strongly aboutthe Grid Girls or Walk on Girls, but it is easy to see why some of the sports or partners would want to be disassociated from them. Particularly in the current climate of challenges around female equality.

The context around the strip club was clearly explained. And that still isn't prostitution.

You may deem Page 3 porn, but I certainly don't. In the same way that if I watch a BBC drama that shows boobs that isn't porn either.

The point is Dave they are not moving away from anything. As I said they will still have lots of people doing the same thing over the F1 weekends.

Same with darts. Get rid of women in cocktail dresses but not the ones in hotpants and sports bras

They’ll be less similar roles going forward so while it’s not a complete switch off, it’s still moving away

Are you saying that they will have women in skimpy outfits stood on the grid in front of the cameras doing nowt but hold a brolly with Santander written across their chest?

If you are then there is no story here.

Otherwise, you are not comparing like for like.
