hawk-eye
See Sheffield Eagles release below :- Following an inspection of the Olympic Legacy Park this afternoon by Sheffield Eagles, the Ground Safety Officer and the Rugby Football League, Sheffield Eagles have postponed Sunday’s scheduled Betfred Championship fixture against London Broncos. The decision comes following heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures in and around the Olympic Legacy Park this week with more snow expected and temperatures not expected to rise above freezing for the majority of the time leading up to Sunday’s clash. After consultation with pitch operators Pulse and Sheffield City Council it became apparent that snow cannot be removed from the 3G pitch as it was deemed more than a ‘light dusting’. Brushing off snow could cause significant damage to the pitch, affecting the fibres and removal of a substantial amount of the infill which is on the pitch. Coupled with this, the Ground Safety Officer deemed areas of the Park not safe to open to the public based on the current conditions and forecasted snow and temperatures. Eagles Chief Operating Officer Liam Claffey said, “It is disappointing we have had to postpone our first game back in Sheffield at the Olympic Legacy Park. “However after meeting with the RFL and Pat Smith (Ground Safety Officer) it became apparent that the game could not take place and we fully support the decision.” “We thank London Broncos for their understanding and a re-arranged date will be confirmed for the fixture in due course.”
