The flaw in that argument is that those are tiny countries, in world terms equivalent to the likes of Malta, Cyprus and Iceland, so playing there is never going to be financially viable.

And third world economies where many / most are subsistence  farmers

Talent is secondary to whether players are confident.

Do other sports have two full test sides for the same nation running at the same time?

France did this season against All Blacks in Lyon midweek. Some subs from the weekend Test featured. Full house too. Caps not awarded.

Great stuff. Future England players get valuable experience of touring, not to mention unique memories.

No Knights in the European Championship, by the way.

Are they been replaced?

Something to consider, with a population of 4.6 million Rugby Union mad New Zealand have created one of the most respected prestigious international teams on earth with the All Blacks. Rugby League mad PNG has a population 8 million, what kind of team could they create if they had proper development strategies in place. The potential is this nation is enormous.

Full test status or not. Its still a strong team full of SL players that PNG fans will be interested in watching. We should get a very competitive (couldnt necesarily say that for a full England team) and entertaining series that will benefit both nations.

However strong and iconic the PNG brand became they would need the international game to grow massively to give them anything like the worldwide recognition the all blacks get.

The Kangaroos and their green and gold are iconic in RL circles and are far stronger and more dominant in their own sport than the all blacks. They probably arent even a 10th as well known though.

You are comparing NZ to PNG?

The All Blacks are Legends in their code.

PNG is a third World Country that in many ways is a Tribal community.

PNG cant become a huge global brand like the All Blacks simply by "having proper development strategies in place."

Even if PNG suddenly became a powerhouse of RL that could dominate the other top nations. It would need the sport to grow enormously around the world to even come close to what the All Blacks are.

To suggest otherwise is a nice thought. But also a fairly daft one.

You want proper rugby league development strategies in place across a nation that still has cannibalism? I'm all for PNG rugby league, but let's be realistic... Ireckon PNG might have a bit of ground to make up on NZ in a few other areas before their league team can try to match the sporting achievements of the All Blacks...

That's actually not true. The All Blacks have a win loss ratio of 77%

While the Kangaroos have win ratio of 67%

I just said they have similar amounts of passion for their supported sports and PNG has double the amount of population thus has enormous potential. Is there something false to that statement?

I don't think there is much if any cannibalism in PNG these days. Sure there is a ton of work that would need to be done and realistically that probably will never happen, but I was saying PNG match NZ in passion for Rugby League as NZ's passion for Rugby Union and has twice the population. Point been if someone did put money into that place they have a lot of potential to be able to produce a great side.

PNG can't be compared to NZ as economies are so so different. Also RL Is alot newer to PNG than RU is to NZ.

I think PNG can get better however the key to that is more NRL /SL  players as the coaching in PNG is not going to be what is needed for elite players.

A Hunters/PNG junior side/s playing in the top QLD junior comps could be absolutely huge for them long term. Reality is PNG becoming a powerhouse is reliant on getting their best juniors to Australia/NZ/England in decent numbers. If done right PNG (and the pacific Islands) could become a 4th major player source for the NRL along with NSW, QLD & NZ.
