Wales Rugby League Annual Report

Recommended Posts

Full report available at: http://mediawales.fluidaa3.dyndns.org/ignite_docs/WRL Annual Report 2017_18 FINAL LOW RES.pdf but overall some promising highlights from the past 12 months including:

  • Participation number up to 1,585 (largest in four years & excludes school numbers)
  • Wales partaking in three World Cups
  • Wales U16s defeating England U16s for the first time
  • 24x Players aged between 14-16 signing with Super League clubs
  • Wales teams playing over 10 different nations over the 12 months
  • WRL running 16 Representative teams, playing 33 matches including games in PNG, France, Ireland, Germany & Australia
  • Still money in the bank despite it being a World Cup year

For me, there is some obvious growth for Wales by creating teams / competitions for Womens & Girls (In 2017, of the 1,585 participants, only 6 were not Males) and Wales MUST MUST MUST organise for regular internationals for the national team.  They mention in the report that the lack of Home Tests hurt them financially, so they really need to take full advantage of things like the International Weekend, etc.

Fascinating reading..Developing the women's game is a must with the funding it would probably bring.

"At times to be silent is to lie. You will win because you have enough brute force. But you will not convince. For to convince you need to persuade. And in order to persuade you would need what you lack: Reason and Right."
