Doncaster 16, Hunslet 35

A good away day in the sun yesterday, and getting nearer to that 80-minute performance we've been looking for all season. And architects-in-chief were Sanderson and Southernwood at half-back, set the ball in motion, took the line on and completely overshadowed their opposition counterparts. But there were many other good performances yesterday; Nicholson got through a ton of work upfront in sweltering heat; Straugheir and Chappell tore great holes down the Doncaster left; Watson continued his excellent form at full-back this season, and Walton must be the most improved player on the books. Still a few too many silly mistakes, in the first half especially, otherwise we would have been out of sight a lot earlier than we were.

Although it sounds like an easy win in the end, in fairness I do think we should mention the injury problems Doncaster suffered which seemed to limit their ability to rotate in the second half and which must have had an impact on proceedings late on on such a hot day. Judging by the way some of our best stuff is played in the last quarter you'd have to say fitness is one of our strengths this season.

So after a seemingly endless succession of games against promotion chasing teams we now enter a period of less intense fixtures (NOT easy - they include Whitehaven and Oldham at home and Crusaders and Skolars away), but this phase gives us a great chance to string some wins together and get us deep into the top five before a more difficult July.

Well done to all yesterday!

Agree with that, thought we were excellent throughout, and we fully deserved the victory, Straff had his best game in a Hunslet shirt, the right edge of Straff, Chapell and Foggy look superb. Both halfbacks were great, Southernwood is now starting to show his quailty and controlled the game yesterday, and Sando just keeps getting better, hes only 20 years old, and is becoming a real talent, his goal kicking is worth its weight in gold alone. Only downside is the lack of a winger on the left handside, if we can get someone in then we should be able to put a real run together.

Great to see the playes staff and fans celebrating together after the game, theres a real togetherness acorss the club at the minute, long may it continue.

Best game of rugby that I've seen at this level for a long time, team spirit and general fitness is superb.

Young Sanderson is a class act,  and Straugheir is proving to be a fine skipper..........
