With the current injuries I can't see us getting anywhere near Halifax... I think the next few weeks will be very very tough.

We might have a chance against Dews mid July.

I hope I'm wrong.

Yep - I hope you're wrong too.

Can't think of a name being mentioned as to who is nearest being fit, although Walker being included in the 19 on Sunday must have meant that he was somewhere near, unless of course we had nobody else to complete the 19 on paper. If Holland had to play whilst not yet fit, why then was Chandler, who hasn't been on the sick list, left out? Sort of confusing isn't it? And yes, we do need to pick up at least 1 winger with a bit of pace, Crookes is doing sort of ok, Tomlinson was great under the high ball on Sunday but wouldn't have backed him to outrun Sykes in a foot race!! Surely Giants must have a lad screaming for game time, or anybody anywhere who isn't getting a game at his club. Halifax aren't slow on the outside, that means 1 of 2 things; we have to be so tight on our tackling that the ball doesn't get out there, or we bring somebody in with the pace to stick with 'em. The board must also approach JK at Bulls to extend the Butterworth loan......I know I had a dig (no surprise there then!!) but he proved his worth and game time in the championship is better than game time in Div 1. In fact if he were to remain 2nd choice at Bradford, I'd offer him terms for next year.

What you are saying Phil hits the mark. Most of the other clubs in our division with similar long term injury problems, effectively wiping out our flanks, would have been scouring the loan availability of 2 wingers from full time/SL squads probably 10 weeks ago. Ainy was always going to be a winger for rotation in the squad this season due to his past injury situation, and has courageously played every week, putting his body on the line until his leg  totally went and basically ended his season. We lost Jonny Campbell early doors, probably on a permanent basis. Reittie is another long term injury. With BISSA waiting in the wings with funding, I cannot see what the reluctance is to search for loan wingers, and give Matt Diskin the support he needs and deserves.

Not having a go, but who says we haven't been looking? If there isn't anyone available/affordable, or better than what we have, then what should we do?

Loads of teams are suffering with injuries since easter, look at Leeds, Cas and Hull for instance, they all have massive budgets and big squads, yet all of them are down to the bare bones. We had a very strong squad at the start of the season, but nobody could have forseen an injury crisis like this one.

I do accept some of the points you make DF, but as supporters it would be appreciated if we were told why we are turning out without any recognized wingers, and the fact that we have/are trying to resolve that situation. Incidentally, I do think we deserve great  credit for the way we are battling on and trying to play some good football during this injury crisis.

I'm sure I read somewhere a while ago (possibly Batley News) that we have been/are on the look out for players, but the ones we want, we can't afford, the ones we can afford, we don't want. With the current shortage of players, combined with the number of clubs suffering with injuries, there will be even fewer players available.

I think Cas signing QLT is indicative of this. He is hardly in the first flush of youth, and he is a good CH player, but SL at his age, really? Not just signed by a struggling club at the bottom of the table either, last year's league leaders shield winners, no less.

I'm sure quite a few SL clubs must have looked at him when he first came over and signed for Sheffield. After all, he previously played for NZ Warriors, but his defence has never been a strong point.

If they are having to resort to a 33 year old Championship standard player, whose best days are behind him, it speaks volumes about just what is available currently.

I hope we can sign the majority of the squad up on long term deals. I really fear for the future of the game.

The club will never get into a bidding war and pay silly bucks to outbid bigger clubs via shrewd agents.

Kevs stance seems frustrating at times but keeps us afloat. Are we still getting 30k a month from sky qualifiers money. This must be subsiding our lacklustre gates. Never have we had some much minor sponsorships on board via danny mauns commendable work.

I remember not long ago we secured the Sheffield 3 for similar money to what cas's michael channing wanted. Sheffield going full time back fired and we got a scrum half stand off and hooker!

Let's face it the time we get ben blacks and tiger handforths is well after fev and fax.

The disco ccnnection for me is disappointing but I guessing his hands are tied -I'm sure he could bring in all sorts of lads but they want gametime

'Shaw cross juniors, Birkenshaw, Mirfield, Heckmondwike Panthers, Stainland Stags and then the Heavy woolen donkeys... WARDY, STOZZA, GT, KARL OR KEAR MUST OF DROPPED A DIGIT FROM MY MOBILE NUMBER! :clapping:

decent game with a decent ref, couple of way forward pass.s got past him n touchies but we did ok with players out who count.fax are one hell of a powerfull side but also have plenty of pace too, never seen a photo fella so keen as to follow the play and badger the touchies ear.shouting us offside and telling coach.s assistant whos blowing and who looks to have a knock, he managed to follow play for an hour without taking any photos tripod in and hand until he nearly got clobbered in corner and stewards escorted him out.:protest:well done stewards.

Halifax fast and strong in the first half, Batley gave the impression of not being interested until just before half time when Joel went over and Patch converted then the score didn't look so great.

Wow what ever was said at half time certainly woke them up a very good half indeed and would have been closer if Crookes had looked to his left and not right when he had made that break and drawn the fullback.

All in all a good performance with the depleted squad.

Kevin alluded to it being about 3 weeks before we see the first of the injured men returning.

Did the scores go with the slope?

Your guys usually defend well if they play uphill in the first half, although Fax are a big and fast side so no dishonour in defeat.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

I thought Batley put in a good dig considering the team you had out. Im going to disagree about the ref though, I thought he and his helpers were very poor, for both teams mind. A couple of times chaging his mind for decisions and I thought the late tackle on Murrell which made him a passenger for much of the game was certainly a penalty rather than just put on report and play on. I don't think there was any malice in the tackle but he landed awkward on his shoulder and not to get a penalty was a bit of a kick in the nuts. I don't think he had much of a bearing on the result though, I just don't think the officials handled the game well.

Fair comment The Blues Ox of course we(Batley fans) probably saw things slightly different, the second half was better once the Batley team woke up.

Looking forward to the return match.

Are we actively looking for cover? We've been told lots of times before that players aren't available, but other sides pick em up like odd socks on the bedroom floor!! Regarding yesterday,  I'm happier with that loss to a side really on an up than to a side really on a downer, regardless on injuries. As I said elsewhere, that's why we run with a 29 man squad, to fill spaces and beat teams below us.
