I did my first day of DuoLingo in Spanish.  I started because I suddenly find myself working in Spain.  A bit like in 'Auf Wiedersehen, Pet' when it went a bit rubbish.

Am I Gypsie?, Am I a renegade? Why am I the only person in my family to have changed address 5 times in the last 10 years? I know no other person who has changed address more than twice (Susan Except), I don't feel desperate to move, after Uxbridge I was settled, 20 years at Wooburn Close, then...…. Move for work, move to live out of residence, move to move in with my partner, move into our (her) bought house, move because she kicked me out.

It was about 30 years ago when I went to Eccles Library, and I went to the language section. I taught myself how to order "Two Beers Please" in 24 languages so I could get drunk, with a friend, in 90% of the world. Spanish, Portugese, Russian, Dutch, Swedish, Japanese, Chinese (Cantonese & Mandorin), Swahili, Czech, Serbian, Croatian, French, German, Italian, Arabic, Israili (erm…), and Welsh, Scots & Irish Gaelic.

Fortunately I have forgotten most of them. Most places speak eenngleesh anyway. So if you say "two beers please", show two fingers & point to the beer pumps, you will get served with 2 coffees, and a baguette.

"In Our Time" is worth the licence fee all by itself but this week's episode (and subsequent podcast only chat) on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is something special. People taking pleasure in sharing what they know and love.

It's absolutely peeing it down with freezing rain and is really cold. I'm off to a gig in Leeds tonight. Am I still going? Damn right.

We were supposed to be but the rains freezing as it hits the ground, staying in, but not a drop of booze in the house ?

I did something I rarely do today: had a match I fancied going to see but took one look at the combination of wind, rain, temperature and, most importantly, *shelter* at said match and decided to sack it off.

I watched something Turkish on Netflix followed by something German instead. I've handed back one man point which puts me on -76,411.

The game finished 2-1. Sounded, via twitter, awful.

Disaster!!!! Leg/skate it to the offy .

The lads I'm going with tonight, I've been going to gigs with since 1982. We've experienced worse than a bit of freezing rain (even if it is bloody cold)

As I’ve got older I’ve got scared of falling on ice, not gonna drive because the roads are deadly round here tonight.

We’ll have to sit this one out ?

Last night, I arrived back from Valley Parade as a block of ice and I’ve only just warmed up this morning. Great 4-0 win, but perhaps the coldest I have ever felt at a football match. Brrrrr.

An absolutely dire, and in the context of history forgettable but it felt important at the time, local cup tie between Aberystwyth Town and Penrhyncoch is the coldest I've been at a football match. I spent the entire second half walking around the pitch because god forbid I stop moving and freeze into position.

Coldest at any sport? That would be Station Road, Swinton.

When I was playing for Irlam Hornets, we had a home National Cup Game against a team from Huddersfield, and it snowed so heavily, when we scored a try, I was standing on half way, and I couldn't see the posts at either end. We heard an argument from behind their try-line, and out of the gloom plodded their prop, He took one look at me as he walked past, and said "Stuff this, I'm freezing, I hope your changing rooms are open." (Paraphrasing, obviously). When the game was over, he was sitting there, changed and showered. He declared our showers the hottest he'd ever had.

I'm working from home today and I decided to work without my new hearing aid to enjoy the silence in the house.  I have just had to put it in again as my tinnitus is so annoying.  5 minutes in with the hearing aid and the tinnitus has gone back to a barely noticeable noise again.

Thanks for that. It was reading your post that brought my tinnitus back into my conscious. Now its whistling away merrily.

Even with my hearing aids in a its a constant background noise fortunately down the years I have become resigned to it.

On another track did you know that hearing aids entitle you to a Disabled Persons Railcard.? You have to show your battery book as proof of entitlement. Its a bit cheaper than a regular railcard and it entitles a travelling companion to benefit too.

Thank you for that!  I didn't know that and that's a lot of money I'll save :)

That was easy!  Applied with an electronic railcard option and they accepted a photo of the battery book.

Another win for the TRL knowledge bank :)

That card is perfect for me as most of my train travel is irregular these days meaning I can use the railcard for every use I have.

Just remember to take the card with you on every journey as they expect to see it.

The "carer" option is a nice add on too with two people getting the discount. My owner had to show my card too in order to board at Euston t'other week.

Thanks, I chose the electronic railcard option as I go nowhere without my phone
