Kris Posted July 4, 2018 Share Posted July 4, 2018 Elstone will do what his remit and instruction allows him to do - he is an appointee of a board of directors - there are rules about trust and following the party line - if he doesn’t he is out just like any other appointee If you want to see what he is going to do look no further than the utterances of Pearson Moran lenigahn et al the will of the board defines the actions of the man i am afraid in reality its about commercialising the top table and garnering more revenue which starts with what there is now - the next tV deal, if there is a TV deal, will be very interesting indeed - the time to strike is then and only. Really looking forward to the back chat later this month with Elstone. For Parky he said that they will be doing due diligence on Toronto so it's not anther PSG @ 50:42. For everyone out of SL he said that funding will be kept at the same levels going fords so long as the new TV deal is the same or higher that the current one, 1:06 into the interview. earlier on he mentioned that they cant cut the other divisions adrift because they aren't strong enough to get their own TV deals and they are needed in the grand scheme of the sport. Elstone says his main objective by a street is getting an improved TV deal. He’s met with the head of Sky Sports this week to ask if they get VFM and what Super League can do about it. Wants Sky to improve their presentation. Wants half a dozen stars who would be household names. Number two priority is getting a handful of wealthy types to invest in clubs. He called international rugby league ###### about face because it waters down the leading nations. Keen on a new tournament involving Great Britain. Thinks Super League starts too early and would like an early year Nines tournament in the Middle East. Would like to see a Magic Weekend at the football ground in Toulouse. Wants more kids coming to games but OK with Thursday nights because Sky like them. Doesn’t like the freeplay rule. Thinks it’s confusing for fans. Toby Chopra Posted July 5, 2018 Share Posted July 5, 2018 It was a fascinating interview, which I think will bear a second listen to really absorb some of the radical things he was saying. I thought the interviewers gave him easy balls to hit and avoided the difficult questions but it didn't matter - Elstone brought all the controversial issues up himself anyway and didn't pull his punches. He's wrong about international rugby league though - I'm surprised he can't see that some of what he wants achieve can only be achieved through building up the international game and Tonga at the World Cup became a major story. Nobody cared where the players were born, they could see they were proud to wear the shirt. Is Elstone not watching the soccer World Cup? Can't he see how international sport reaches parts that club sport can never reach - even the Premier League? But that was my only gripe. Everything else sounded spot on to me, and perhaps the biggest take away for me was that I think that some of the weaker SL clubs need to get their house in order quick because it sounded like if you can't get with the program, there'll be no special favours under his regime.
