ATTENDANCE | 647

The Dons earned what could prove to be a crucial two points in the race for the Betfred League One play-off places as they beat Oldham 26-22 at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Richard Horne made four changes to his starting XIII, as Hakim Miloudi, Jack Logan, Aaron Jones-Bishop and Jack Downs all came into the line-up.

In what always promised to be a tight affair, Oldham edged in front early on as two penalty goals from stand-off Paul Crook put them 4-0 to the good.

The Dons scored the only try of the first-half on 23 minutes, as the ball slid across the greasy surface and into the hands of Sam Doherty, who raced over in the corner. Matty Beharrell converted for 6-4 to the Dons. Beharrell extended the Dons’ lead three minutes later with a penalty goal from 20 metres out.

Points were hard to come by for the remainder of the half, and Oldham added another two points via the boot of Crook just five minutes before the break.

HALF-TIME | Doncaster RLFC 8–6 Oldham

The Dons made the perfect start to the second half when Brad England got on the end of a kick through from Jordan Howden to score. Beharrell converted to make the score 14-6.

Richard Horne’s side took control of the game and scored again when a deep kick through from Jez Litten was touched down by Aaron Jones-Bishop.

Jack Logan then looked to have wrapped the game up for the Dons with 16 minutes remaining, as he pounced on a loose ball to race 80 metres to score. Beharrell converted for 26-6.

Oldham launched a comeback in the latter stages, as Danny Langtree scored their first try of the game with 11 minutes left on the clock.

They went over again when centre Matthew Reid got on the end of a kick to the corner from David Hewitt to reduce the deficit further.

The Dons’ nerves were tested in the final few minutes, as Oldham winger David Eccleston weaved his way to the try-line on the right wing. Hewitt converted to make the gap just four points at 26-22.

The home side managed to see out the final few minutes of pressure though, and moved level on points with the Roughyeds in the Betfred League One table.
