What now for Toronto?

Recommended Posts

What changes will we see in the off season? In my opinion certain things have to change but somethings must remain.

McCrone has to go. Not good enough and costs more in how refs view the team than he brings to the team. He'd argue that the Pope wasn't a catholic.

Rowley out. That team looked like a Rowley team - dull and uninspiring in attack, dirty and grubby in defence. As Leigh posters on here have said in the past, Rowley can get you to this point, but is unlikely to get you any further. A new coach

Sims and O'Brien to stay. They have to hold onto them as they'll be crucial for a promotion push next year and are assets to the club of the field too. They're the standouts but there's a good core of a squad there especially with the new recruits coming too.

Most importantly... keep going! TWP have been doing a hell of a lot right for 2 and a bit years now, keep on the horse and push for SL next year.

They have stated again and again that getting into SL is a five year plan. All the rejoicing we will see over the next few days from the myopic tendency will be like water off a duck's back for the Wolfpack, and lessons will be learned.

Losing today could be a long-term bonus, if they are smart enough to see what needs to be done. And I definitely think they are smart enough.

Think that in the long run this best for TWP.

The qualifiers have shown them that there is still work to be done.

Good effort to get 10 pts and only lose out on points difference but they would have really struggled in the higher division.

They really need better half backs, McCrone is not the answer, a top class centre to unleash MCB plus at least 2 top class forwards.

A little more investment and more crowd support will see them as firm favourites for promotion next year.

Today's defeat may yet prove to be a blessing in disguise as events have proved that they were not quite ready to go up.

Well played London, I hope that David Hughes provides the necessary investment to keep you up next year.

They regroup and go again next year, they came top of the championship going into the Super 8's this year and surely must start as favourites for next season. As Futtocks says above, this could be a long term bonus, as today showed they weren't quite ready for pressure matches and Superleague. Another season in the Championship will allow them to better prepare

Just thought of another plus - if the Wolfpack can keep their 2018 TV deal going, then that's one more game on the box per week next year! Not just exposure for Toronto, but also for their opponents, who are badly neglected by the TV company that controls the Championship's television rights.

I got the impression from Rowley’s post match interview that he knows he won’t be wanted next season

I imagine a coach with either Super League or NRL experience will join and the squad will get some serious investment and there may be less journeymen next year. It's bad news for Widnes who will now find an immediate return to Super League much harder.

I hope their owner and fans stick by Toronto. They got as many home fans to their match this week as Wigan and St Helens, their potential is clear.

Hopefully, it's just a setback, because I have little doubt they can add a lot to Super League when their time comes.

If Toronto invest in a more SL-ready squad next time around, there'll be some very decent players appearing on the market for the other Championship clubs.

They are terribly coached. Under 10s stuff 4 hit ups kick to corner.

Be interrsting dynamic in championship - toulouse are making some noises about big signings, widnes have the cash to recruit well, while the arrival of former giant Bradford is an interesting one. That along with the always competitive leigh, fax and rovers.

The need to get rid of Mccrone and Rowley for definite. The trouble with players like Mccrone and coaches like Rowley is that the winging infects the rest of the team too and then they all begin whinging and start to make excuses for what is going wrong instead of looking at themselves.

They also need more power and speed in the forwards and a bit more strike out wide. A new organising half as well instead of Mccrone. I'd also look for a better strength and conditioning coach too. I don't know Beswick's credentials but as a team they look to be lacking athletically and under powered and its their superior players that have often got them through.

I really wish you were a Sky Sports programming executive. We have had a thoroughly intriguing and exciting season in this division, and Murdoch's bods have barely given the public a glimpse.

What if they don't get up in the next 3 seasons will they pack it in.

Some people are currently on their knees, praying for just that. I reckon they would actually be even more ecstatic if all the money, support and goodwill went over to RU and actively hurt our sport's wider interests.

I'd have loved to have watched more matches from this year's Championship season. It has been fascinating and thrilling, even with the limited coverage.

Oi! Sky Sports! Have you the faintest idea what a gem you are keeping from the public?

Argyle now has to persuade Transat to keep the faith and continue to transport teams and officials for free for at least another year until the 15,000 traveling Super League fans that he predicted arrive to provide a return on their investment.

Transat are a big part of the jigsaw, hopefully they will hang in there.

It was a 3 year sponsorship wasn't it?
