Sam Doherty went into the 2018 campaign looking to help the Dons towards a play-off push with some clinical finishing and hard work from the wing position.

He got his first try of the season in the Challenge Cup victory at home to Myton Warriors, where his first-half effort contributed towards an 82-6 win at the Keepmoat Stadium. He continued his good early season form two weeks later, as he crossed for a try just after half-time as the Dons beat fellow play-off chasers Whitehaven. The winger made it three-in-three a week later as attention once again turned to the cup competition, as Doherty dived over to cap a 34-0 victory over Newcastle Thunder.

Another score followed against the same opposition in Betfred League One, as Doherty helped the Dons turn the game around at Kingston Park to secure a 22-20 win in the North East. He turned from scorer to provider in the defeat against York City Knights, as he raced down the line and kicked the ball through for hooker Kieran Cross to touch down. The winger scored his fifth try of the season in the home defeat to Hunslet, before adding to his tally when Keighley Cougars visited the Keepmoat Stadium. Doherty’s early second-half try helped secure a 29-20 victory.

Doherty was proving to be a real asset for Richard Horne’s side and scored in the record breaking 102-6 win over West Wales Raiders at LD Nutrition Stadium. He then scored the opening try in the victory over Oldham, before he put the seal on a 50-6 over Keighley at Cougar Park. The 24-year-old capped off an impressive season with a try in the Dons’ final away game of the season at North Wales Crusaders.

Dons 2019 season tickets are now on sale, and can be bought from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
