Knights excited for Championship challenge!

As pre-season training once again begins in earnest, York City Knights are brimming with confidence and looking to establish themselves as one of the Betfred Championship’s top clubs.

“I’m very excited for the future of this club.” Knights Chairman Jon Flatman said: “2019 will see us compete with traditional worldwide renowned Rugby League clubs who are visiting our great city to take on our club.”

The level of competition has been raised dramatically and Knights fans can start to get excited about the prospect of witnessing high quality action week in week out, when the 2019 fixtures are officially released on Sunday 25th November

Flatman added: “Toronto Wolfpack’s second visit to York will bring back memories of our 2017 victory over their high quality playing roster - the first club to do so in league competition. Widnes as a 2018 Super League club will bring a passionate following and a team packed full of stars with points to prove. Bradford, as former World Club Champions and more recently great rivals of ours will always prove a tough test.

“Attendances will rise and we must enjoy the experience. Every game will be at a level of excitement greater than the previous year.”

As well as preparing for a tougher league program, the Knights also look forward to competing for more silverware in 2019:

“The introduction of the 1895 Cup is fantastic. It gives clubs like us a very realistic chance of taking part in a wonderful showpiece event on the hallowed turf at Wembley Stadium, and could act as a possible springboard to further success.”

With the fantastic training and soon admin (the Knights move into brand new purpose built office space early 2019) facilities afforded to us on the sports campus at our partners York St John University, the club will have the best tools possible at its disposal to challenge at the top, and open vital new player pathways for the best local talent to represent their home city.

“The level of support from the public, private and individuals has been unbelievable, and we owe it to them to deliver a brilliant experience for all those that have committed to the future of our club.”

It looks like they have got RHETORIC emblazoned on their shirts.

But good luck to them for all of that.

Would it be possible for someone to explain the KNEETS word, please?

Is it just the sound of the accent for Knights,or something more interesting?

It has only come into use fairly recently,I think.

No reserves, but resilience, persistence and determination are omnipotent.

Not interesting just seems to have crept in based on a West Yorks pronunciation.

I have high hopes for York, just hope they have learnt from the past and do things on a sustainable basis.

How is the amateur game in York and the surrounding area.I know York RUFC have aspirations.

York haven't had financial troubles (as such) since 2002 when the Wasps folded. The previous owner had a difficult relationship with the stadium partners and his position became untenable. The current owner has been a breath of fresh air in the last 22 months though! :D

The amateur scene is healthy too. Acorn, Heworth, New Earswick All Blacks and York Lokos all have thriving junior setups. Both York University & York St John run RL teams (with James Ford running a few guest coaching sessions) - The Knights see the University game as an area rich in coachable talent. The Knights Foundation is running programmes in more primary and secondary schools than ever, and the EXCEL talent identification programme continues to unearth potential future stars for the soon-to-be-launched academy (which I believe will be Cat-3, but I could be wrong!). The Knights have a good working relationship with York RU too. :D

A club being positive and Lowdesert has put it on here so he can laugh at all the "does not compute" posts

TGG and positive should be a marriage made in heaven but are more like two strangers passing on trains going in different directions.

On thread though, brilliant and well done to York for what looks like doing and saying ALL the right things ...... er does not compute!

2 warning points:kolobok_dirol:  Non-Political
