We decided a few years ago that we needed to improve or facilities to start and attract players and juniors especially when we've got a RU club with excellent facilities and a junior football club that had a million pound facility built for them less than a mile away. They have a few players back this season and a few ex league lads who've played at a decent standard, the guys now running the football side of the club are good lads. it's a shame they have a hidden hierarchy, we was about to sign for a new ground (old school playing fields) but after a lot of work going around clubs with clubhouses asking questions we decided to move in with Thornensians, this has turned out to be big mistake because after just one season they (Hierarchy) decided that we were no longer wanted, we could only put I down to our product on the field was outshining their own, also the crowds we got where about 4 times the size they mustered, the lads who are now running the football side of their club keep asking us to go back but we've decided to sort our old ground out and build our own club. It was a hard decision to make between starting juniors or bringing our facilities up to scratch to attract and keep juniors but a decision was made and we've stuck to the task. We now feel we can start on the long road of starting with our juniors and hopefully the local council will allow us to erect a clubhouse pitch side in the very near future. Before the lad who moved away who did a really good program, we used to get around 60 printed at Staples and sold them for a pound, this would cover the cost and make about £20.00, a lot of work for little profit but it was more to do with providing a service than making money. How much do you anticipate the clubhouse costing? Do you have one currently? Could be an opportunity to tap into the 2021 RLWC community grants for that We play from a local pub but are also well supported by every watering hole in the Thorne & Moorends area, we do have a plot of land in the middle of the village 24 metres x 44 metres that we could sell to finance a clubhouse at pitch side if we could get the councils permission, we also have a few other option but they're located about 600 to 700 metres from where we play, one option would be to take over the St Johns building and the other is building on our own land, we are looking to try and tap into the 2021 funding but that will be for a better canteen at pitch side to allow parents to keep warm dry and have a cuppa while their kids train/play and also to get the corner of our main pitch drained because it can get bad when we get rain like last year. We have all the trades required to build a clubhouse and it would only need to be a bar as the changing rooms on the ground have just been refurbished. The marauders progress is heartening to see what with all the negativety in the game. I'm also a saddleworth rangers fan and our new clubhouse is also a product of a rugby league community getting together and making things happen as is yours. Onwards and upwards for you guys. Great news I'm only gobby on here and 99% of it is wind up, I actually want all rugby league to flourish but what's good for the goose isn't always good for the Gander and we should never be scared to back track, it saves lives, relationships, companies and I'm sure sport.
