want teams to travel over on a friday and leave after the game is it a sign their hospitality or funds are drying up now they have a foothold

This may partly be to save on housing expense (though they are  offering more meals that would reduce those savings). I think it's more to get teams flying back to Manchester instead of Glasgow, as there were some complaints about that routing last season. They are asking, and it's up to the RFL, consulting the other teams, to decide whether they will agree or not.

I do not for a minute think this is a sign of any financial strain.

It makes sense to me if they are footing the bill.

I would be cutting costs whoever I could, its unlikely that Air Transat have got the number of travellers they were aiming for with Toronto not making SL next year, so I think its probably sensible.

Exactly...so you try to accommodate them and their concerns and guess what?....you are the bad guy again!

Leaving on Saturday night means they can fly straight to Manchester rather than Glasgow which is more convenient for PT players apparently

And next year when they have failed to gain promotion again, they will ask that the opposition for the following year fly out on the Saturday morning, be bussed to the Lamport arriving 30 minutes before kick off, and then be bussed back to the airport as soon as the players have showered. This will allow them to save 100% on accommodation and meals expenses as none will need to be provided, and ensure no embarrassing slip ups by losing at home in front of the enraptured Wolfpack.

A joke? Maybe, but let's see what happens if they do wobble again next year.

Toronto explained that it was an option. They  said that they had supplied training facilities and most teams opted not to use them. Instead they had used the day for sightseeing.

Brian Noble said they had asked sports scientists about the optimum way to handle the trip and the consensus was travel in on Friday and then straight back after the game. He offered to share that info with any coach that was interested.

They were at pains to add that clubs MIGHT or might not want to take that advice.

They explained that it was just another option and they were happy to provide either option.

They asked for clubs to think about the options and decide early so that they, Toronto could make early arrangements to make their life easier and of course they would save money by not paying for facilities that the visiting clubs would not use.

That all sounds very reasonable and indeed sounds like Toronto are being as helpful as they can be.

They had the opportunity to ensure they weren't playing the part time teams this season.

Weren't good enough to take it though were they ?

Fair enough. I was only joking - be nice to see you back at Batley again.

It’ll be interesting to see what clubs choose as I got the impression the players liked having a night out in Toronto post match
