Albi lost for the first time in soggy conditions down at Limoux who move up to 2nd.Toulouse lost again but improved performance once again in the Garonne Derby. Battle royal at Carcassonne Saturday with the Catalans coming from behind at the interval. Two lovely worked tries put St Esteve ahead early from Franco and Ambert before the Canaris responded with their international forwards Escamilla and Canet taking the lead. The youthful Catalans seemed to be wilting in the heavy conditions but showed steel late on with some great defending. The competitiveness overall still holding. oiseau
How's Canet looking after dropping down a level Gordon ? The main reason he was given the boot at TO13 was due to his poor discipline. Looks like a handy win for Villeneuve at Elima's lot ?

There are some decent sides in Elite 2. Carpentras look strong and Baho will always give it a go. I watched VARL at Lescure and wasn't impressed. Lescure played good rugby but VARL used the strong -arm tactics to take the points. Where are VARL playing their home games ?

Louis Anderson to debut alongside brother Vincent the VARL player/coach. To be joined by former Widnes winger Patrick Au Van in January. That will then make six antipodeans alongside Makisi, Pau and Pelo. The Elite 2 All-Stars eh. The total population of the two villages of Villegailhenc and Aragon is around 2,000.Where are the euros coming from?! oiseau
Is VARL still in partnership with Limoux ? Six antipodeans is a bit OTT for me i'm afraid, it doesn't do much for the treiziste cause imo.

audois
I get the impression that VARL are well managed and resourced. One little thing for example the other week going up to Toulon they stayed overnight to avoid the demonstrations. Appear ambitious with rumour of wanting to play in the Challenge Cup. They are still I think reserve to Limoux. They're causing a stir in these parts for sure . Getting the game talked about locally. Carcassonne XIII v VARL in Lord Derby Cup would get the punters out. Villegailhenc to become the new St Jacque when Carcassonne had two sides! PS - Alan are Doctors or retired Doctors that well paid. I think Guilham's brother is an accountant too? audois
This weekends results Albi 26-27 Palau St Esteve 24-30 Lezignan Toulouse 6-30 Avignon Villeneuve/Lot 18-24 Carcassonne Limoux 42-12 St Gaudens All three Aude clubs winners. FCL leaders squezzed past St Esteve but the youthful Catalans behind at 6-24 pushed them all the way with teenagers Brochon and Chan claiming tries. Only undefeated side Limoux march on with convincing win over the Pyrenean side whom were in the wrestle up to the break. Carcassonne at last won a tight match. After recent narrow loses to SOA and St Esteve came from behind late on to beat Villeneuve while Olivier Elima’s Palau side caused the weekend up-set turning over Albi up in the Tarn. Title holders Avignon at last showed their pedigree beating Toulouse who cannot buy a win presently. oiseau
Cracking game at the Mazicou with Palau winning with the golden point. Good performance from Lescure to upset Pia and the reserves losing o a spirited La Réole outfit nowadays coached by the ubiquitous Vincent Wulf. Heard a rumour Mourad Kriouache may be off to Limoux and / or Bradford, no idea if there is any substance to this news ?

BJW
May have been answered elsewhere but is the Pia side a resurrection of the old Les Anes, a development of the Barouders or a totally 'new' entity ? oiseau
Impressive win at FCL by Villeneuve. Strange old game at the Domec last evening. Albi matched the home side for the first quarter then lost their way as bad discipline saw them go down to 12 with some yellow cards thrown in. From that moment they lost the plot and Carcassonne took advantage. Not a great advert for the sparse crowd. Toulouse did their best but were blown away by an enthousiastic St Esteve outfit. Steve Macnamara was there to witness the rout. The Catalans look decent this season and will be difficult to bet against.

audois
Don’t think it was the surprise of the weekend – more like the season. Rinaldi’s side down 16-0 ten minutes before the break. Villeneuve two decades back ruled the roost. With the likes of Rinaldi, Frayssinous and Fakir et al. They reached the CC quarter finals losing to the Wire. They were the first club who wanted to play in England full time. They’re a bit isolated out towards Bordeaux but having them back in the Elite 1 mix crucial long term. They have junior partners too nearby in La Reole,Tonniens, Trentals, and Pujols playing at Federal level. Rinaldi here front row centre, to his left I think Laurent Carrasco who must be near 40 yrs old who played in that great side earlier. The two new names I keep hearing about are youngsters Goffin and Carrasco (presume a relation) - both scored 2 tries each at the Stade Moulin yesterday. Some great names from the Villeneuve golden age Gordon. I bumped into Vincent Wulf a couple of weeks back when La Réole visited Lescure. He won five titles in those heady days and he has loads of stories to tell about those days.He had a long career and of course represented France for a few years.
