Irrespective of his football connections, Harry Gregg was a hero in the way he went back into the carnage of the crashed plane at Munich to rescue others without a thought for his own safety.  RIP

not to mention his fantastic steak bakes and sausage rolls, only kidding -sounds like a top bloke from the reports have seen today

And then there was the outporing of grief on BBC Breakfast that lasted nearly 15 minutes. She was a TV Presenter, it shouldn't get more than a 5 minute mention, certainly not more than Harry Gregg who saved lives in 1958.

Agreed with this.

A story about her (ie The last photo of her took by a friend) is one of the headlines on the BC 6 O'Clock news, yet the same not afforded to a man who ran back into a burning plane to save lives.

I am not a big football follower but it was his actions that were far more worthy of a headline rather than someone who was only a celebrity because the media wanted her to be one in order to keep publishing stories about her.

Sadly it it will keep on happening. People really think that they can say anything they want on social media.

Surely the answer is then not to be on any form of social media or am i missing something here?

Easy for me to do but a lot of her life/work was on social media.

One of our own: Pilkington Recs legend "Jethro" Geoff Philips

I was fortunate enough to play under his stewardship of the Pilks 'A' team in the 1980s. A true rugby league character; very well know and well loved in the rugby league community of the north west. RIP big fella.

Dr Heather Couper, astronomer and broadcaster.

Edited for spelling. There is an astronomer called Heather Cooper, but she's not the one who died.

Gosh, bit of a shock.  She was inspirational to aspiring astronomers

Apropos of not much, last night I  was reminiscing about Edwin Shirley Trucking, haulier for many bands tours throughout the 1970's and 1980's. I once got a backstage pass to a Rolling Stones gig courtesy of my ex-brother-in-law being a friend of one of EST's managers.

I haven't seen any of their distinctive wagons for years ...   purple livery with the logo "You Rock, We Roll". Looked Edwin Shirley up on Google and he died in 2013. His son ran the business for a few years but returned to academia.  Nowadays he's an astronomer. So there's still stars in the family.

Katherine Johnson, at the age of 101, one of the black American women who played a vital but at that time unheralded role in the American space programme in the 1960s.

The 2017 film Hidden Figures, which I would strongly recommend, told their story.

Just read the the author Clive Custler has passed away.

I loved the Dirk Pitt novels when I was younger. His books were always fun.

Never read any Cussler, but wasn't the movie 'Sahara' a Dirk Pitt adventure? I remember seeing that and thinking it was fun.

Yes it was! Also marked undeservingly as was one of the most unsuccessful movies of all time. I enjoyed it though.

It isn't a brilliant movie, but it is an energetic, likeable escapade and good Sunday matinee fodder.

RIP James Lipton, into the final actors studio.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Very sorry about Dave Rainford.

He came up and chatted to us when TRL auditioned for Eggheads, hoping to put a team in to publicise the 2013 World Cup. He said he was a big Salford fan but despite this 😉 he obviously did have a tremendous knowlege of the game. A very nice bloke.

The Wales RU team wore black armbands to commemorate Matthew Watkins. He played when centres were supposed to have more than an inner battering ram.
