Dons News Posted January 6, 2019 Share Posted January 6, 2019 The Dons were given a tough test against Hull FC in their opening pre-season friendly, beaten 12-72 in a difficult opening encounter of 2019. Richard Horne gave starts to local trialists Kieron Lawton, Matty Chrimes and Harris Jones. It was the vistors who made the best of starts with just one minute on the clock, Liam Harris powered through after a kick over the top from Hakim Miloudi. Four minutes later, after strong pressure from the home side, Hull broke through with Wynne who bounced off Sam Doherty and crashed over the line to increase their early lead to 10 points. The Dons settled into the game, with new signing Brandon Douglas and Kyle Kesik leading the way with strong defending. With 23 minutes on the clock, the Dons found their feet and after neat work from Douglas the former Castleford man crashed over under the posts to drag his side back into the game. After great work from Lawton to save a certain try from Wynne, the resulting play saw Danny Langtree extend FC’s lead to 10 points with 30 minutes on the clock. Just minutes later Hull once broke through with Jez Litten whose neat pass found Jordan Lane, who quickly found a way through and put the ball down. On the hooter Hull FC broke through with Liam Harris running the length of the field to score a fifth try for his side, sending the Dons into the break 22 points down. The Dons started the second 40 the brighter of the two sides with Kieron Lawton almost scoring his first try in a Dons shirt, but Jack Logan pushed the teenager out of play as he dived for the corner. Two tries in the space of five minutes saw the Dons go 34 points behind with Liam Harris completing his hat-trick after a neat kick through from Jordan Lane, after Naulago collected his first try of the afternoon. Hull continued their onslaught with Charlie Graham powering over to extend his side’s lead, but the Dons quickly fought back through just five minutes later with Russ Spiers after neat work on the try line. Hull increased their lead further after good work from Liam Harris who set up Miloudi to score his first try of the game with 61 minutes on the clock. Tries from Patterson-Lund, Nazoungo and two from Graham in the final 10 minutes saw the Super League side add a real gloss to the scoreline.
