To be fair to the Comets,I had heard it was only a rider or two has they had signed contracts and were out of a club,so a bit unfair Jim has we are not talking about a shed load of cash and the Logan family have kept the Comets going for a few years with low attendances and paying high wages to pay their top riders, and now its taken its toll with no speedway at Derwent park again.A big miss to a lot of speedway fans near& far.

It isn't unfair and it isn't a criticism of the Morgan's. I know 3 businesses that are owed and Ive heard Town are too. I went to speedway and supported it. All I'm saying is it was obviously too much financially and speedway won't be back

our lease is just as valuable as towns IMO. if the reds dug their heels in (which I hope they dont) as again we need this new stadium, they could cause at least a 6 month delay to the whole project putting the RL games in doubt surely? I personally think 10k is a little too low. either way my vote will be for moving as we need it.

the deal for moving into the stadium is fantastic.

thats me done on the subject.

I think you’ll find that under local authority legislation they have to use an independent valuer and can’t just think of a figure. What value do you put on a very short lease on a piece of land that probably can’t be used for any other purpose and probably can’t be sub let, let alone sold. I don’t know any details of the lease but would be amazed if it didn’t contain all manner of restrictions which would make it all but worthless to anyone except the Reds.

I'm all for the stadium for christ sake. I just think we should be treat fairly. We are giving up our home (yes it's a ramshackle) but if we move and the place is bulldozed and the stadium falls through what then?

Why did you say that the new stadium is mainly geared up for rugby ? Where did you get that false news from ?

Will reds (more than likely) relegation impact on their likelihood to dig their heels in?

Its not the Redd BOD that are digging their heels in they are all fot it. Its the ones that own a tenner worth of shares that are maki g all the noise.

You’ve seen the reds lease and you don’t think that they have been treated fairly!!!!!

They can be out within 6 months as you say (providing the council provide a acceptable alternative, which they are) you are getting £10k for the privilege of giving up them few years left.

You are going to be moving into a brand new stadium with a rental of 20% of your gate receipts.

What part of this is a bad deal for the reds? How are they not getting compensated?

I for one think they are very fortunate along with Town that they have been afforded such a fantastic opportunity.

The only thing that will hold the Reds back is poor performance in the boardroom and unfortunately at the moment on the pitch.

A 5 yr lease is just as important as a 100yr lease ? Im still trying to work that one out. Rockerlad forgets that we are losing our home too and moving to the sight of the old BP. I bet there wasn't many Spurs fans moaning last night about losing there home and moving to a new one on the same site.

Reds I'm sure would love a new stadium coz if they get relegated in theory they will be 1 level above the likes of cleator moor celtic,  carlisle city etc long way of the conference level.

Biggest worry is not the outcome of the reds egm, it is the results of the council elections and what could possibly happen then.A lot of independents standing all with their own agendas, God knows how they'll be able to work together

Mr Jenkinsons wife standing for election in the Moorclose ward I believe. I'm not sure if she is Tory, National Front, socialist workers party or monster raving loony. Her husband has flirted with them all, a political butterfly.

My mate bought a season ticket for comets for 2019 before they announced they weren't continuing, they said at the time they would refund all money but are ignoring all emails and phone calls asking for the cash now! Comets unfortunately wont be back any time soon

You’re talking rhubarb lad.

how can a 5 year lease on a dump be worth less than a 100+ year lease on a stadium that’s passed as fit.

the reds issue is they don’t have anyone who understands finance.

itll cost them £30-£40k a year to keep that shiiiithole going so why should they expect to move to Derwent Park at zero cost???

You should join their board as you quite clearly don’t understand money either.

Rockerlad does not represent Workington Reds and he is not a Director.  His views are his own and not that of the board of Workington Reds.  So lets not have a bun fight.

I'm in agreement with a previous post that both clubs are lucky to be getting any compensation considering we are both moving into a brand new stadium but Allerdale BC have followed the legalities of the leases and acted accordingly.  Much to their credit.

This scheme needs positivity as I'm sure it is going to become a political football/rugby ball during the local elections.  I'm sick of reading some of the rubbish spouted against the stadium in the T&S letters page at weekends.

It's like Brexit. Those who don't want something shout the loudest it's the same people sending in the letters that were opposed to the sports centre, Town centre and the last proposed stadium. I can't think of another Town in the country who would kick up a stink about something that will benefit the area for years to come. Its noticeable that the majority of those letters come from people in other Allerdale Towns and the usual suspects who just won't let it rest.

It's also the same mouths who constantly whine that the youth in the area have nothing to do or nothing to aspire to.

We’ve got two increasingly decrepid old stadia . We need a new facility , we’re getting an exciting new facility that’s gonna put us back on the sporting and entertainment map and take us into the future for decades to come . I really don’t get some people .

The decision to fund the stadium has been called in again by conservative councillor jenkinson and independent councillors. They are using the stadium as a stick to beat the pro stadium  labour council before  the local elections in the hope that not enough labour councillors will be re-elected. (Also to drum up negativity in the local press) Make no mistake that if the independent candidates get voted in at the expense of labour councillors then there will be no stadium. We all no conservative jenkinsons views(austerity and keeping the area in the previous century) and a lot of the independent candidates will follow him, especially in seaton and moorclose. I’m using my vote to vote labour. If everyone here in favour done likewise then the stadium is more likely.

As a footnote I think the current councillors do a good job for allerdale considering the massive funding cuts imposed by central government and you only have to look at Copeland council to see how bad it could really be.

Always worth checking out the views of candidates up for election on the Stadium plans then you know who to vote for , i suggest all Town and Reds fans do this , and vote accordingly .It really is in the hands of the people of Allerdale , only apathy will allow Mr Jenkinson and co to be re-elected .

I've heard people saying they're not gonna vote labour. Only labour will deliver the new stadium. The independents (racists far right) smell blood. If we want a decent future for our club and our kids please vote labour. If Labour aren't in the majority the stadium won't happen.

This is what voting for the independent candidates and the conservatives will do in the local elections. They Do Not Want a new stadium. They are uninterested in trying to drag the area into this century and would prefer not have anything new, positive and for future generations. They are content to have no plan for the future and revel in the scaremongering they are doing in the local press.

Surprised no-one has mentioned it but it seems that the reds egm didn't run too smooth last night, still a few disenters with a lot of shares apparently. The whole things a mess at the minute too many people in the area happy to push their own agendas on all sides beginning to feel that we are going to end up with nothing

Me as well. There’s a negative bandwagon rolling and not enough noise from those in favour.

I was apathy that lost us the last proposed stadium, unfortunately the Brexit situation will lose Labour some votes, people are annoyed with the stance our MP is taking, I know people who are desperate for the stadium but wont be voting labour even though its nothing to do with the council. I had to laugh at some of the leaflets posted through my door this week, none of them said what they would do for us they just slagged Council off for being forward thinking even having a go at the new sports centre  which has been a fantastic success.
