Spent over an hour trying on trainers this past Saturday, probably the longest I’ve spent in a shoe shop in, well, ever.  Got some good help and advice at a specialist running place and found a quality pair that fit over the leg/foot brace comfortably; good stability and shock absorption for the right leg which is basically a solid chunk of plastic which transfers that shock load of the heel strike straight up my leg into the spine.  More than a bit gyp inducing.

Nerve issues have calmed down a bit his last week after a month of difficulties and medicated mind fog.  Finally have been able to get some restful sleep and pulled myself out of the funk I’ve been in since being hurt again.  Having counselors and therapists available i can’t begin to tell how helpful they are; even though I’ve been at a really low ebb, they at least keep you aware that it’s a process with an end.  Make use of them if you can, I have specialists for my spine and nerves, why should I treat my mind differently?

Back to the tracking and moving tomorrow, back to focusing on my goals.  Like people say, it’s not how many times you get knocked down, it’s how many times you get back up.

Right, tomorrow I intend to try and go 'running' with the Hastings Runners slow group.

We'll see how that goes.

Whats up?

Ive a prolapsed disc that likely needs replacing. A broken verterbra that is likely 15-20 years old is potentially causing sciatica or it potentially isnt. Stupid rugby! I always knew something was odd....

Seen a physio today who wants to avoid spinal surgery; his theory is that my bum cheek and poor supporting muscles is the cause of my nerve pain.

Summary - pay for a physio, a reay good one related to your injury. Ive had multiple NHS MRIs etc in the UK and months and months of physio and in reflection theyve all been terrible.

My situation makes me realise how lucky i am to live insured in Singapore. I have a MRI or whatever same day and go over the results with my surgeon straight after.

Oh..mentally im rubbish at the minute. Proper weird depression, do better than me and talk to someone if you can. Injuries are pretty ######  but spine stuff is even worse.

Can you get any exercise in at all with the back? I've found keeping muscles around injury as strong as I can helps as much as physio....also with the head too!

150.1 kgs this week.

Another inconsistent week in some areas,  but good in others.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

I can do more these days, some stretching etc and a few machine weights in the gym. A 20 min 'swim' this evening as well.

My physio is pretty sure that my fracture is ok and that my main symptoms of a usless left leg, painful shin and overused hammy are because i tore my glute.

100% agree that any exercise helps mentally. Keep plugging away and see what happens. Are you doing anything in particular?

Godspeed.

Got back out and walked 4kms in 45 minutes last night.  Hate this stupid irrational anxiety about it though.

Not weighing myself until next Wednesday, don’t need another reason to be ###### off.

I play rugby at the age of 42! Not had too much injury wise but know how rubbish it is for me mentally when out. It's rugby union I play so much easier anyway ?

Sorry, shouldn’t laugh at the thought of injuries, but that was funny ?

But ... "gym" is derived from the Greek "γυμνος" (gymnos) which means "naked". Why shouldn't he weigh himself in the buff? What are you worried about?

  • 2 weeks later...

On the recommendation of my sister I've been following the very basic 'Introduction to Yoga' on the Yoga with Adriene channel. Adriene herself looks like she's about three foot six but also clearly could punch out a horse should she ever stop doing her pinterest friendly moves. Anyway, long story short, combined with time and physio, this means that most of the Pain has gone and a few residual aches also seem on their way.

Did Parkrun last weekend - five minutes quicker than the last attempt a few weeks ago and at a nice steady pace - and then did another slow but steady run during the week of 4.5k round half of Hastings' lovely Alexandra Park (it really is, but don't tell the tourists). So ... getting there. Slowly. But getting there.

Being an English traditionalist I don’t hold with this new age nakedness and exhibitionism.

Relaxed mens wear should be a tweed three piece suit, a stout pair of brogues and a cap.

In times of extreme physical effort it is acceptable to remove the cap, jacket and tie, in absolute extremis the shirt collar may also be loosened or removed entirely.

There's a chap who sometimes runs Cambridge parkrun in tweeds. Sub-20 minutes too. He does have running shoes rather than brogues though.

Boston (UK) Marathon for me on Sunday. 26 miles around the turnip fields of Britain's dullest county.

Knees have been sore the last few days.  Need to get off the tarmac I think.

72.12 this weekend please Shadow.

The reduction might not last as I go to Edinburgh for a week so I will eat more there. However there is daily access to a gym to counter this.

Won't be any Rugby league unfortunately ?
