I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of some new running shoes and wondering what I've become. I read reviews of them and everything. Obviously there is no way I'm going to communicate with any human being in real life so internet order only.

100k done last month, all without killing myself. That includes the Canterbury 10 mile. This month I have a club run - the Championship run is from just past Eastbourne Pier to just past Hastings Pier. I'm not doing that. I'm doing the wimpy 2/3 version which is from Cooden Beach to Hastings. No points for me but about 9 miles added to the total.

All this positivity somewhat undermined by the large bacon and egg baguette I'm currently devouring.

As a fellow runner I always refer to conspicuous consumption of fried food as Carbohydrate Loading, if it's accompanied by a pint of tea you are hydrating as well. This is a good thing and something that proper athletes do.

Ref the shoes I'd recommend visiting somewhere that know their onions when it comes to shoes, my local supplier of preference is Alexandra Sports of Portsmouth and Winchester. I have been in there all fired up ready to splurge £120+ on a pair of Asics Gel Kayanos and came out spendig £55 on a pair of Brooks that were much better suited to me and led to fewer compression injuries. If it's any help these are not normal people, they are running types so normal social interaction passes them by.

In principle, I agree. In reality, the specialist shop near me is a bit too far out of the way and I genuinely haven't had the time to get there and do it properly. I've tried to base this purchase on knowing the advice I got last time combined with following some useful reviews combined with 75% off.

This of course is the most important aspect

Yup. That and the colour. I'm not completely shallow.

I figured I would end up having to buy two sizes of trainers to get around having the brace in one for running with.  We have the Running Room chain over here which is pretty good for support and I ended up with one size of Brooks Transcend 5's which not only fit both feet reasonably but get a decent amount of cushioning on the braced leg which is basically hitting the pavement with a solid lump rather than a foot.  Wore a pair out last year which is the first time that's happened in 15 years.

After a dedicated weeks bingeing I’ve finally managed to finish the Xmas chocolates

A false alarm. Mrs Moose has unearthed a box of forgotten about gingerbread flavoured Matchmakers, sounds disgusting but I’ll be a brave lad and give ‘em a go.

Crazy week and 162.4lbs.  Had an issue wearing some boots this weekend and the brace dug a massive hole in my heel that I didn't notice until it got infected.  That really sucks sometimes.  Anyways, upshot of that is being at the gym last night, taping the snot out of it I still wanted to run a bit (how weird is that after all these years not being able to run, can't not any more!).  I had to shorten my stride a lot to take the pressure off the heel and surprisingly for me it felt okay at a slower pace.

When I got to 3km, my PB up to now, I still felt okay so jogged a few extra laps.  Got to 4km.  Then I figured I was so close to 5km I might as well do that.  So I did.  Then I just went a lap more and a lap more.

6km I did in the end.  Twice my PB.  Blew my 5km 2020 goal out of the water in February!  I guess I accidentally found my longer distance pace and so stoked about that, I guess I need to look at 10km now!

I had a Retina scan booked at the GPs on Monday and was told the drops they would put in my eyes ment I couldn't drive for up to 6 hours afterwards.

I considered the Bus and noticed it was a once per hour service that meant hanging around for 30 minutes at the surgery waiting for my appointment. I also noticed it was only a 10 minute bus journey  so I tought to myself "Hey Shads, you're back into the running these days, up to 5 miles on a Sunday, how far can a ten minute bus ride be?"

Turns out going the shortest route that involved a lot of mud and forest tracks it's 8.5Km there. I arrived with moments to spare caked in mud and very sweaty. Had the scan and walked out to find the return service left 3 minutes ago so it was either wait for an hour or head back through the mud. I chose the mud.

Tuesday evening I went for a gentle 2 mile jog round the village in the hopes it would loosen things up. It didn't. I am today doing a very good representation of Kenneth More in Reach for the Sky

After the other night I wanted to see if it was a fluke running 6km so I did another session at the indoor track last night at the slower pace.  5km in 29m20s.

For the runners out there should I be looking at improving distance or speed?  I'm not sure now!

Both I always find it easier to mix up distances doing say a quick short run then pushing yourself distance wise. It stops you clock watching which can be a pain if you just run the same distance over and over.
