New faces Angus Crichton (Rabbitohs), Ryan Hall (Leeds), Brett Morris (Bulldogs), Brock Lamb (Knights), Bernard Lewis, Egan Butcher, Josh Curran, Shaquai Mitchell. Unsigned/Losses Blake Ferguson (Eels), Frank-Paul Nuuausala (retired), Paul Momirovski (Wests Tigers), Sean O'Sullivan (Broncos), Ryan Matterson (Wests Tigers), Kurt Baptiste (Cowboys), Billy Smith, Eloni Vunakece, Matt Ikuvalu, Mitch Cornish, Reece Robinson. Exclude Dylan Napa from that squad he is at the Dogs now. What sort of team can we expect from Wigan under their new Coach. Talent is secondary to whether players are confident. JoneslessBishop Posted January 15, 2019 Share Posted January 15, 2019 They’ve lost Bateman and Sutton to Canberra, and replaced Tomkins with Hardaker, and added Sammut in the halves. Whilst that wont make waves in Oz it could help Lam deliver a more expansive style. Wigan have a very proven track record of relying on youth in SL, but when SL clubs have unveiled a new generation in the WCC in recent years it has looked a bit men against boys. ghost crayfish Posted January 15, 2019 Share Posted January 15, 2019 Defensively Wigan is pretty sound and they will obviously be up for it at home, so hopefully can keep it tight. It's hard to see them causing the roosters too many problems, but you never know. With Hardaker, Sarginson, Gildart, Williams, O'Loughlin, Farrell and others, there's plenty of guys who have done a decent job at test level before. This is largely because they generally seem to be a team in transition when they play these games and often look off the pace early in the season. I’ve been disappointed with the lack of signings they’ve made, especially when they’ve lost so many big players. I’d be surprised if they got within 20-30 points. It will be interesting to see the difference with Lam in charge. They did OK v the Sharks in early 2017! ...Escare had a big game in his first competitive game for Wigan and they won convincingly... I see the Roosters as clear favourites for this however Wigan won't be a easy beat and this will be competitive with a Wigan win possible.
