Brits in the NRL

It shows how awful the Dogs are though if Brisbane put 24 past them without conceding. I haven’t seen Thompson play for them this season, is he getting a gig?

Isn't Thompson suspended at the moment?

Ryan Sutton outstanding for canberra this morning . Three men down , two of them forwards he stood up and put in a tremendous shift . Nice try from Williams , Hodgson was prominent , but the Raiders unsurprisingly just run out of puff . Absolutely tremendous game .

Shouldn’t be losing after winning 31-10 with half an hour to go.

Shouldn’t but they just started rowing and the Warriors were running downhill fast and the Raiders massively fatigued couldn’t stem the tide . RTS was great against a tiring side . I don’t think Sticky will be overly upset , fully tooled up they’ll be there or thereabouts

Chuffed about Farnworth. Barring injury, I’d say he’s a cert for the England squad now. Some quality at centre, at last!

Which is more than can be said for that match , I nearly lost the will to live after an hour .  Couple of nice tries near the end but those sides are average and  I’d give Town a chance against the Dogs , they’re bloody useless

Walters was hardly reaching for the popcorn. But amid the scrap, he would have been pleased with Brisbane’s defensive clean sheet and the slick performance of centre Herbie Farnworth.

The British utility back was dangerous, amassing 213 metres, six tackle busts and three line breaks as he carved up Canterbury on the edges.

At 21, the 100kg Farnworth is developing into a rangy attacking threat for the Broncos. Brisbane’s forwards should heed his hard running.

Superbly weighted kick from Herbie for that last try as well.

All the Canberra Englishmen got over for tries also. Great to see.

How did Dom get on?

Ran the ball in well, made a couple of errors in defence. Looked exactly what he is: a young lad, with potential, making his debut. Assuming the injured players return soon he can go back to reserve grade for a bit, work on the things he needs to, and slowly progress. The Knights know what they're doing with him.

Isn’t Best injured and likely to miss a few weeks ?

Pretty much spot on. Plenty of things to work on but some good signs too.

Yeah he's out for an indefinite period at the moment and Shibasaki had an abysmal game on the wing so I suspect Young will keep his spot next week. Hopefully he can build on those few defensive issues and grow in confidence during that time.

I liked the Young shirt story , he was wearing 32 because he ripped the shirt they gave him and it was the only one that fit him . Hes obviously very raw but his yardage carries were pretty strong . They didnt get him involved at all really in attack until the very end but i hope he gets another chance soon as every game he’ll improve . He’s still a kid , i hope he beds in  there and stays for the long haul

It certainly didn't help playing inside a winger who's also basically a rookie. I thought the Knights were a bit worried about sending the ball to the right because of the inexperience on that side, which made their attack lop-sided.  I don't think Young got an early ball during the whole game.

The thing that has pleased/impressed me is that none of the English players who are over here or the Aussie players who have comeback have looked out of place, like Mead at the Broncos looks strong, Brayden Williame at St. George looked good yesterday and of course all the other blokes.

Makes me think the competitions aren`t that far off just perhaps a little in terms of intensity.

I`ve only seen one picture of Clark and he looks like one of those rangy players who are deceptively strong, really hoping he comes out it would be great to have another top-class foreign player in the comp.

That's a great point. It wasn't too long ago that if an NRL player came to Super League that pretty much meant either they were near on retirement or were accepting that they would see out their career up here. Very few went back and made first grade again. I'm thinking Jamie Lyon, Pat Richards off the top of my head. But you're right, the two comps feel like they're complimenting each other at the moment, especially with the younger players - long may it continue.

Quick shout out to Ryan Sutton's start to the year. 200m at the weekend. Averaging 140m and 31 tackles a game so far and already dotted down for a try. He's making it very hard to bring Horsborough back into the team if he carries on like this.
