graveyard johnny Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Dom Youngs centre partner for their 1st match of the season against the Broncos is debutant Rob Toia- so it should be interesting to see how this untested new pairing gets on - imagine the Broncos will target that side in attack and with the boot already leaving DY with a bit more work to do than last season when he was paired with experienced superstar Manu 1 I know Bono and he knows Ono and she knows Enos phone goes thus
hunsletgreenandgold Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Does anybody know what the sitch with Ryan Sutton is? He was out all last season but apparently due back round 1 this year. He's named in the top 30 but not on their injured list and didn't appear in the team photo a couple of weeks back. Hope he's not in danger of being medically retired.

Great break by Toia and Young beat 2 defenders to score

DoubleD Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Young scored 2, the latter rather fortuitous as he looked to have gone into touch. Roosters had 50 put past them though, their defensive structure was non existent. Going to be a long year for them, will be in the bottom 4. Tedesco was a shining light for them and didn’t deserve to be on the losing side. Toia also looked very good. Radley played right 2nd row interestingly but suffered a bad concussion early on, which is a concern given his history of concussions. Haas did only things he can and the Broncos will surely be challenging again this year. 1

hunsletgreenandgold Posted March 6 Posted March 6 That Radley KO did look concerning - he didn't have clue what day it was even when he stood up. As mentioned, his history of head knocks and symptons bares a lot of similarities to that of Boyd Cordner's, who ended up retiring at just 28 1

I can see a lot of blow out scores in the NRL this season with the lack of detail defensively and the massive impetus given to attack.

You could find a blowout in just about every round last year. Chooks just on the end of a hiding tonight.

Archie Gordon Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Only watched the tries but Young looked awful in defence. Sometimes he was in the wrong postcode. 1

Not pretty for the Chooks.

I’m not going to defend Young too strongly on that showing because whatever the mitigation he’s part of an edge defensive unit so he’s somewhat culpable for that edges poor defensive reads even if it’s just his communication to his inside defenders. However, he is constantly left with very tough and almost no win situations to deal with where he’s damned whatever he does! If he comes rushing in to kill a 3 v 1 from developing and gets bypassed or if he stays out on his wing and the attack just walks through his inside he looks bad either way. Someone at the Roosters is responsible for defensive coaching and setting their structure both as individuals and as a unit and I’d point to them before throwing the players under a bus. 3

I don't fully agree with this, sorry. Yesterday, he just couldn't read what was unfolding in front of him *at all*, and he repeatedly lost his bearings - he looked as if he had no sense of where the touchline was. Roosters generally look to have huge problems but Young did defensive things yesterday that were just really poor. EDIT: Toia and the Roosters right edge was much worse as a collective than Young on his own. This is a 'Brits in the NRL' thread, however, so that is why my focus is on Young. DoubleD Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Dodd not involved for the Rabbits with Humphreys getting the nod. Interestingly Humphreys had a stint as a junior at Elmbridge Eagles in Surrey. Anyone know more about this?

Farnworth had an uncharacteristically poor game for him, defensively anyway, in what was an entertaining game between 2 closely matched sides. The returning Arrow, Campbell Graham and Keppie up front making a difference
NRLandSL Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Supposedly the Knights are offering Dylan Brown a $ 1.3 Million 10 year contract. I think it’s about time Pryce gets out of Newcastle. Fletcher Sharpe is also firmly ahead of him in the pecking order now as well. Pryce has not at all been given a fair go by Adam O’Brien and Newcastle IMO. When he has played he shone real promise and talent, yet O’Brien seems to have no intention of playing him. Perhaps he could come back to SL, but I would like for him to stay in Australia and properly break into the NRL, no doubt he can. Just not going to happen at Newcastle under a clueless coach.

Stupid decision by NRL to play this game.
