Round 2 — Whitehaven

I went, played some lovely stuff at times, Mccomb excellent also as per usual though through errors we ended up doing too much defending throughout the game. First 20 of the second half we couldn't seem to get any possession at all and even when we did we made errors.

Me too, haven had a succession of back to back sets early doors first half couldnt score, we carved them open on our right edge continuously after that with mccomb bowman and hawkyard particularly dangerous.  Start of the second half we went to sleep as we do every week in a game, we switch off at some stage  , they had two tries disallowed which would of put them in front at the time, then we pulled away a little bit. We need to play for more than 50 minutes every week to finish teams off and stop these lapses that occur every game

The team will get better there were lads playing yesterday that needed game time and it was great to see Grimmer back and Ben Davies. Grimmer looked threatening on the other side and his work in defence helped keep Haven at bay.

I continue to be impressed with Bowman, also Benty terrific as usual.

McComb hat-trick as we go third

ZACK McComb’s genuine hat-trick of tries in the first half was the highlight of a 36-12 win against Whitehaven which lifted us to third place in Betfred League 1 behind Workington Town and Coventry Bears.

Great performance from the whole squad. This must be the best squad we have had for a long time - and they will only get better. On the evidence of Sunday's game there isn't a team in this division that can touch us. The only criticism  is how they went to sleep just before and just after half-time.

The referee looked about 20 but did well keeping the lid on what could have boiled over. Some credit must also be given to the players of both sides for not taking full advantage of his inexperience.

Just for interest what was the penalty count?

The stats have been very interesting so far this year. I think they show how good a player Langtree was for us as we have almost had to completely change the way we play to replace him. Instead of Bowman being a direct replacement we almost play with three half backs with Hewitt on the left, Bowman on the right and Brook being the link between both.

I think it also shows that Scott has seen we really had to improve in terms of creativity and ball movement and already we have seen the difference there. If we can combine this with the old passion and the enthusiasm we had before and bring that intensity to the big games we could have a very fruitful year.
