Not sure about registered but it's said that one in three of the population play regularly.

That's just the leagues that met the requirements.

Yeah, it's been that way as long as I can remember. There are leagues that don't meet the requirements, others that can't afford the affiliation fee, and then just casual local comps as well. It's crazy really, in terms of finding players and utilising its resources we've barely scratched the surface of PNG.
