The reason they merged was to avoid getting into an expensive bidding war for on-field talent. More enlightened self-interest than anything else.

Quite right, wasn't the only reason though and they were already in an expensive bidding war.

What I find the most impressive about it was that all these really rich old white men were able to reach a compromise deal where they even got 3 owners - Baltimore Cleveland and Pittsburgh - to switch leagues.

Yes I found that impressive as well, they got a nice compensation package to persuade them though, even so, still a tough move to pull off.

Find it a bit weird you would feel the need to bring age and skin colour into a sports forum out of the blue though. Wealth yes, because it wouldn't have got done without it.

I can see that but basing a future League on criteria based on past events... you need more flexibility

And Toronto would carry a lot more weight to the casual fan in Oz than nearly all of the M62 towns

Well cough off Toronto, leave the British game to fend for itself, and apply to join the NRL,  it should not be any problem for the team or the fans of TWP if the NRL endorse it, it would still be playing the first half of it's fixtures in a 'foriegn' country (the weather situation will not change) and the second half in Canada, and they have no knock out cup comps like the Challenge Cup to throw their season in disarray.

Rugby League fans in Australia know the history of their sport and how & where it was born so those horrid M62 towns hold a lot of value to them, no doubt. He did say casual oz fans though, even so they probably also know wether from qld/Nsw or not.

They really don’t care about former pit towns in the north of England.

I think saying 'casual fan' was a generalisation of those Australians who are interested in the game of Rugby League i.e. those who invest time and money following the game.

Some Aussies do though Oliver it gives them a paypacket when they are not deemed good enough to hold a job down at home, you know the people who come to live in a former pit town in the North of England like Justin Holbrook, Luke Douglas, Kevin Naiqama, Zeb Taia, Lachlan Coote, and this particular pit town even attracts a couple of Kiwi's in Dominique Peyroux and Joseph Paulo and a French man in Theo Fages

Super League, the league that’s shown on the box in Australia. Awful, awful comparison.

No problem, since you were not being precise I just pointed out that some of our antipodean (and a French man) friends are actually very grateful for the existance of Rugby League Football in a particular former northern pit town.

Perhaps as you state they the paying public are not interested in Super League in Australia coukd be for the very reason I stated, we employ their cast offs?

Fevs 2 Aussies seem to be enjoying it and appreciate the opportunity on offer.

Political Correctness here blames everything on the long-ago decisions of 'rich old white men'. They are usually considered bad decisions now, for how can a bunch of rich old white men possibly have any relevance nowadays. It's vaguely insulting, but usually not racist, and definitely not so in this context, because that's just what they were.
