Warrington Plan to Steal Our Sunshine

Recommended Posts

You’re just being a bit paranoid.   I can’t see anything wrong with local Warrington councillor Scaramanga’s plan to harness the power of the sun,  nothing sinister in it...

Anyway, any queries should be directed to his specialist Philipino assistant:

Brilliant book!

...which the movie Blade Runner got its ideas from I think?

And Philip K Dick also wrote a few shorts that were the basis for movies such as Minority Report and The Adjustment Bureau.   Not a sci-fi fan per se, but I love a movie based on such themes as PKDs short stories.

I’m currently just getting into Black Mirror on Netflix too... classic already!

Blade Runner did get its ideas from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? but the storyline in Blade Runner is actually the secondary storyline in the book.  The title refers to the fact that in the fictional future world there are no living animals and animals are in fact robotic versions. The main character's ultimate dream in life is to own a real animal, hence the title asking whether androids would dream of owning artificial animals.

The two films you mention are based on PKD stories as are films such as A Scanner Darkly (my personal favourite of his books), Total Recall (based on a story called, 'We Can Remember it for you Wholesale'), Paycheck, Screamers and many others.  Check out the tv series 'The Man in the High Castle' as well, based on his novel of the same name.  It is about American society if the axis had have won world war two, carving America up into the Japanese western zone and the Nazi eastern zone.

PKD is my favourite author.  Massive sci-fi geek in terms of classic sci-fi novels, let me know if you want any recommendations!

Anyway this isnt the book thread, this is about Warrington having to steal beautiful Yorkshire sunlight! :P

Perhaps we are being charitable and sending you some of our sunshine to try to brighten up your side of the mountains a bit!  Yorkshire folk are very generous people you know! :D

They're not stealing it. It's just "Warrington's year!©"

So, they'll knock on in the last minute and it'll end in tears just before actually achieving anything? :ninja:

And we still cannot get the inhabitants to speak the Queens English.

They seem to have some sort of speech impediment. When they say Barnoldswick it comes out as Barlick. Boodly Yorkists too tight to open their mouths properly

Yes I’ve been wanting to try that but I believe it’s on Sky not Netflix?

Amazon Prime only.

I've enjoyed the bantz but this is quite a courageous and forward-thinking thing for a local authority to be doing, especially against a backdrop of local government cuts. I have long believed we should make better use of Warrington's sun-drenched climate.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Drenched, Yes. Sun....?

I thought the only Sun in Warrington was one that you looked at pictures in. I would have said read, but for anyone who buys the Sun, reading is an option.

Speech impediment? Have you not been to Colne, did you not know how they speak in Nelson, did you not see how they mangle the English language in Burnley ?
