I have to agree with this... I hated the noise on Friday night. It didn't spoil the game for me but it tried really really hard.

Yeah I don’t like the band, I don’t understand why you would think it would be acceptable to take an instrument into a stadium (unless you are playing a gig and are an actual musician).

Have you seen the England band? It’s like half an orchestra there’s that many of them. I went to watch England v. Costa Rica at Elland Road and people were shouting at them because they were blocking the view of the pitch (and making a noise).

I was disappointed with Leeds’ half time entertainment on Friday night, it didn’t live up to the hype, I’d have rather watch the cheerleaders, at least it looked like something was going on when they were in the pitch

They've been a 'thing' at Leeds for a while, haven't they? To the TV spectator it used to be a minor irritant you could subconsciously filter out, but the new south stand acoustics made them sound as if they were standing in my garden.

And why were they playing "Oh, Warry Warry" and "When the Saints"?

Give 'em all cowbells instead?

They are proper annoying.  Makes the cowbell sound like a choir of angels and even the banging on the corregated metal at Cas is more tuneful!

It's a no from me.

Ive been told (incorrectly?) they are also the same people who provide the 'music' at Sheffield Wednesday and England matches.

I'm a drummer myself and the only time I've ever enjoyed musical instruments at a rugby league game was when Castleford played Catalans down in Carcassone, the locals had drums etc but were playing them with talent and a bit of Mediterranean/New Orleans style flair, some really nice Gene Krupa type rhythms being played which added to the carnival atmosphere.

When it's just some oaf from Beeston or Airedale hitting the thing as hard as possible it adds nothing.

Going to buck the trend here. I think they’re great. Contribute to the atmosphere massively.  If I had a slight criticism it would be unnecessary appropriation of other clubs’ theme tunes as mentioned above.

They are there to lift the team, just think how bad Leeds would be without them.

Leeds fans have been singing "when the Leeds go marching in" since at least the 1980s.

Self-important and basically immature in my opinion. People go to a match to watch the game and soak up the atmosphere not listen to a bunch of poor "musicians" shouting "look at me!".

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

Its a funny one this. For any none rugby friends I've ever brought to Headingley the band is often one of the first things they notice - almost entirely with a positive response. Perhaps thats bc we're in the Carnegie Terrace rather than the south stand, but maybe its because it generates a good atmosphere and is unique. Without a hardcore kop end that sings continuously for 80 mins, I think the band helps atmosphere at Headingley immensely.

I'm ambivalent about the band. I'm not normally in the same stand as them so it's not as offensive as it maybe would be up close. And they do bring a certain something at times.

On the other hand on Friday I was in the South Stand and whatever they've done with the acoustics, or the amplified noise system, made the drum louder than I expected - it actually sounded like it was close by on the upper tier to me whereas it was (presumably) in the middle at the back of the terrace.

The South Stand was able to come up with its own atmosphere in the decades before the band so they're not an essential part of the gameday experience but I also wouldn't be fighting to see them removed.

I think that's going to be a real problem that has been highlighted since the proposal to put seats in the South Stand came about. Regardless of what the higher ups at the club say about the acoustics etc, its not going to be the same crowd.

True but they have been working on all sorts of amplification systems that are supposed to help with the noise. We'll only really know when the place isn't beaten into silence by the crud on the pitch.

Yeah I guess they are still testing things, don't know if it was just me but the floodlights seemed really bright too?

Why not get Ken Shuttleworth to play , love a bit of Austin Ambassador y reg myself .

Now you're talking. (Though it's John rather than Ken, the excellent Lancashire bowler)

I've also got  a soft spot for 'Pigeons in Flight' and 'I Can't Go Back to Savoury Now'

I think it will all take time to get used to and create a new atmosphere, it’s never going to be the same as the old south Stand.

The new terracing seemed smaller than before, everyone felt a lot more cramped in but I think that might have been because everyone was trying to find the spot where they stood in the old stand
