Russ Spiers says the Dons are in confident mood ahead of the Challenge Cup tie against Coventry Bears on Friday.

Both sides have two wins to their name so far this season, and the prop forward says it will be a tough game at the Keepmoat Stadium.

He said: “It was a good win at the weekend and one we worked hard for, the boys are buzzing to get back out there now.

“Coventry are a good side and they’ve shown already this season just how much they’ve improved since the end of last year.

“They are a strong team and they’ll give us a game, we have to make sure we’re ready for the test and stand up to them.”

With a short turnaround between games, Spiers says the week leading up to the game has been about making sure they recover right.

He added: “We’ve had to make sure we’ve recovered right, the short turnaround means you have to look after your body as much as you can.

“It can be easy not to look after yourself but we’ve got a good group who do the right things both on and off the field.”
