Good proper game of rugby league at Widnes. Both teams deserve credit. Only drawback was the moronic swearing from our chanters. Come on boys, you can get behind your team without any need to shout obscenities at the opposition fans.

Most frightening thing I've seen in over 60 years of watching TV - Brian McDermott smiling!

McDermott? Thought it was a tramp!?

I don't know who the Australian guy is on the commentary, but he can barely string a coherent sentence together

Well he's Fijian ins't he of course, so Australian is not his first language - right? ?

Toulouse highlights

A very fun 6 minutes of rugby including some outrageous offloads and dummies

You would have to hope that for the sake of the game that there isn't any teams worse than Barrow on that showing in the championship, but I would imagine that Hornets and Swinton will disprove that theory come the seasons end?

Just in from Bootham Crescent, where an impressively enthusiastic York hammered Halifax 38-16. A comprehensive win for the hosts over fitful (I'm being generous) opposition. All over in the opening quarter, really. York crossed from 80 metres in the first minute and were 18-0 up after 14. Ten points down at the break, Fax, still in it, had the wind (and sun, effectively) in their favour during the second half but struggled to make an impact as their discipline went to pieces. The try count was 5-3 (two crackers for Ben Cockayne) but York's Connor Robinson landed four penalties (all absolute gifts) and five conversions. Back to square one for Fax head coach Richard Marshall, who, on this evidence, has a lot of big lads on which to call but precious few creative rugby players. Fax's Scott Murrell, who waddled about to minimal effect, looks like he needs to lose at least a stone. Onwards and upwards for York. The crowd wasn't announced. It must have been nudging 2,000. Admission (main stand seat) was £17 and a 28-page programme sold for £3.

No shock at all in that performance from Fax. Our start to the season has been abysmal to say the least. A game basically given on a plate to a decent side with a shambolic opening 10 minutes from Fax with a couple of gifts and then typical poor discipline and total lack of creativity giving us little chance of making up 18 points. Marshall has come to the end of his time at Fax and the sooner he moves along now the better it will be for the club.

The crowd at York looks right. Main stand looked to have about 1600 in. About 350-400 from Fax behind the posts with 100-150 York fans in there too.

It says something when York fans are disappointed to not get more at recent home games, only 4 years ago the avg at York was 428 and the highest crowd all season 607.

Slowly moving in the right direction.

I’d say that’s rapidly moving in the right direction!
