Richard Horne wants his side to start well in the game against Whitehaven this weekend.

With a long trip to Cumbria to contend with, the head coach is looking for them to put points on the board in the opening stages.

He said: “It’s a long trip for us to overcome this weekend, we want to make sure we start well and that will help us.

“We’ve had an opportunity to get a few bumps and bruises sorted out going into the game and making sure everyone is ready to go.

“The boys have looked fresh leading up to the game, they had a bit of a break which helps at any stage of the campaign.”

A victory for the Dons would make it three from four in Betfred League One, and Horne believes they must handle the conditions with a smart kicking game.

He added: “I’m hoping it stays dry so we can play some good rugby, but we’ll have to prepare for whatever conditions we face.

“Conditions are hampering most teams at the minute, the rain and strong winds make it hard to move the ball how we want them to.

“The kicking game will be very important, they have a strong middle unit so we’ll look to move them around.”
