NRL 2019 - Round 2 - Match Thread

Storm just too good and clinical in everything. Everybody knows the job and expected to simply do it-but they also possess players that will play whats in front. I think Finucane is very underrated and lays often the platform for the Storm as today. No Slater or cronk but still as dangerous as ever. Pleased Croft is being given the chance to play his game his way and given plenty of ball. He impressed again and his kicking and game management is quality for such a young kid. Smith as ever the old master controlling things in and around the ruck.

Canberra made too many errors and struggled at times in attack. Bateman had another good game and is a great pick up for Canberra. Hodgson for me rushed things and tries too hard at times and these sometimes sees wayward  passes which happened a couple of times today again. The Fullback again had a quality game and not just reads the game well but makes good metres. I am not sure Cotric is a good option on the wing. He was caught out a few times. Storm looked to target him and Croker. I dont think the halfbacks are good enough and didnt really put that much pressure on the Storm defence.

Thanks for the reports.

Good result for Storm.

Will watch Game this evening.

Storm still struggling to get points with the amount of possession, Bellyache wont be happy with those stats  also Vunivalu might be in strife with him despite a hat trick his defensive errors made it easier for two of the Raiders tries  also JB certainly acquitted himself well, nice to see another former Bradford Bulls Academy player doing well in the NRL.

Canberra showed today that a win in the wet against a Titans team with no halves may have been a bit of a false dawn.

They have a hardworking pack and some strike power out wide but they will not be contenders unless they sort out their half back issues.  Seizer blows too hot and cold and his kicking game is too loose while Wighton is not a stand off.

Nobody grabs that Raiders team by the scruff of the neck and guides it round the park.

Scrum Clock? Could someone enlighten we on what is the penalty here. Duing to-day's  game Canberra had  scrums that on two occasions they failed to input the ball due to time Melbourne took the set the scrum. On each occasion the hooter sounded but the referee just played on after the scrum was finally set. Surely the defending team should face a penalty ?

Superb performance from the Broncos today.

Tevita Pangai Junior was outstanding and his fellow prop Ofahengaue was very good as was Flegler off the bench.  They totally outplayed the Cowboys middle forwards Scott, McLean and McGuire.

Obviously the loss of Taumalolo was a huge blow for the Cowboys but the way the Broncos got on top I doubt he could have made up the difference on his own.

With teenage sensation Payne Haas still to join this squad after his suspension the Broncos are going to be a great team to watch this year.

For the Raider's it looks like any other season, flatter to deceive, I like watching Nik Cottric in attack but his defence is very poor, got shown up a number of times when played at FB last year and doesn't look like anything has been done to help improve it since. Whitehead looks jaded, certainly not making the impact of previous seasons, Bateman is Bateman as expected but Ryan Sutton looks well out of his depth, I said when he signed it might be a short stay and if he doesn't get farmed out to the Mounties that could be the case.     Ricky Stewart seems to have hit a brick wall with his coaching so best to move him on and bring in someone else with fresh ideas and a new voice?

Titans had two tries chalked off in the first 5 minutes. Since then the pendulum has swung and the Fish scored in the 17th minute with winger Katoa crossing in the corner.

After 20 minutes, Sharks lead 4-0 but Titans look pretty good in patches.

27min: Dugan try after Fifita passed to nobody, chased the ball which was fumbled by two Titans, then kicked it back to Dugan about 10m out from the line.

SJ converts. 14-0

Apart from the 10m zones at each end, this game is closer than the scoreboard indicates. Titans have crossed 5 times and been held up 3 times and knocked on the other two times. They tried powering over with Jai Arrow and Ryan James but they aren't stretching the Sharks' defence out of shape before these plays so, no result. The Fish are getting three defenders in there easily to snuff out these plays.

Titans left side has conceded all the tries. It's going SJ > Moylan > Dugan > Katoa and it works every time.

47min: Titans get on the board for 2019 after a good break by Jai Arrow. Couple of plays later Brenko Lee crosses out wide.

Gordon converts. Titans 6 - 20

Feki is on the bench with ice strapped to his knee. I didn't even see him injured.

Jayden Brailey went to the head bin early in the game and won't be back, now Briton Nikora goes to head bin. Sharks might run out of fish.

Titans look early contenders for the spoon with or without Ash Taylor!

They showed some glimpses in the middle 80m of the field but once they got to the money end of the paddock they were clueless.
