Richard Horne felt the Dons did enough to get the job done after beating Featherstone Lions 46-6 in the Coral Challenge Cup fourth round.

Horne’s side scored five unanswered second-half tries to seal their progression, and the head coach says getting into the hat for the next round was the most important thing.

He said: “It was a tough game for us, they played with some really good energy and probably had a higher completion rate than us.

“We had a few players playing in different positions, they all slotted in fairly well and got the result in the end.

“We got the result and that is all that matters in a cup competition, we’ll look forward to the draw and see who we get.”

Hooker Kieran Cross scored a hat-trick at the LD Nutrition, and Horne was impressed with his all-round performance.

He added: “Crossy probably hasn’t started the season as well as he would have liked, but he showed what he’s capable of with some nice tries.

“His running from dummy-half and the pace he showed was good, his defence was also solid at the other end of the pitch.”
