Widnes away in cup.

Half time score isn't great, but it sounds like we may have picked up a couple more injuries we can do without. Brining and Rawsthorne off tonight, and according to Acko, Benny may need a scan as well. Not bothered about the result now, just want to avoid picking up any more injuries before the Easter programme.

Add Joe Porter and Baldwinson to the injured tonight as well. We could now have 3 of our 4 loan players with injuries. It is also worrying, the number of tries we have conceded on our right hand side defence since Ash Robson got injured. Hope things not as bad as they seem.

A lot of players went down injured from both sides, don't think the pitch helps. I know it's been brought up countless times before and the Widnes club say the pitch is fine so I'll leave it there.

Down to 11 for the last 10+ mins. We were still in the game nearing the 60min mark. Impressed with Baldwinson and thought Whitely was MOTM. Ref kept it flowing on the whole. Enjoy watching Gelling but if he cut out the Harlem Globetrotters stuff they'd have scored near on 60. York were very one man rugby, would've liked to have seen Heckford more involved.

2229 attendance with about 80 from York.

So all in all, a disastrous night for the Knights. Picked up half a dozen injuries, and not made much money from the gate either. Let's hope the injuries don't turn out serious because we could well be struggling in key positions over the next few weeks. It was difficult to tell from Fordy's interview how bad some of the injured are, but he didn't sound too confident about Baldwinson and Brining. That is a big worry for me, because 6 of our next 7 games are, Fev, Widnes and Toulouse, all twice. We need as many players fit as possible.

Heckford had a decent game as did Kevin Brown again, he is some prospect. The sense of pride in the team is there to see, down to 11 men against a full strength Widnes side with many last season super league players and they still kept battling to try and get first to the ball but when you are been run at in the centre and offloaded to a winger no chance you can get anywhere near on that wide pitch be a different story on proper grass at Bootham with a full strength side but all of the boys that played yesterday have to be proud of the display they put in.

All be it a bridge to far and have to admit my expectations were a little high, i thought the lad held up really well ,new combinations, new players in the side all added to what was already a tough ask yet our youngsters stuck at it even when down to 11 men , given this was a new look side it was to be expected it would lack cohesion and effect our perfomance and at times it showed that said the never say die attitude was there for all to see Jubber leading the way,  Heckford tried hard to make things happen and i thought Baldwinson  went well and Brown needs more first team chances ,overall very proud of the lads gave there all once again.

Is the widnes pitch the same as we are getting at the new stadium?

Next few weeks are going to be one heck of a test for the knights, in fordy we trust, get there n cheer em on!

The pitch at the new stadium will be a mixture of grass and synthetic fibres as used by many first class sports venues .

Traitor!?

Have to take a wrong handicap although agree hard to cheer against your own team!!!. Bottom line was we sent a weakened team and they were at full strength so a no brainer punting wise. Will be interesting to see the line at home to the Vikings though although injuries may play a significant factor of course.

Forgot about Jubb, played the full 80mins and one of his strongest games in a York shirt.

Also thought the York fans, though not big in number, were louder than in previous matches. I wonder if it's because we went into the match as underdogs, just like previous 'loud' games (Leigh at home, Toronto 2017, Bradford at Odsal etc) whereas against the likes of Sheffield and Swinton we were favourites so not as loud...maybe that backs to the wall feeling brings out the best in us.

Fev away on Friday, they'll be hurting after 26-8 up with 15 ish mins to go then losing. Need to be on form on the pitch and in the stands.

Obviously it was going to be a tall order for the Knights to beat Widnes on there own patch with so many changes to the team against a full time team and a more or less full strength team so still to be in the game after a 60minutes before injuries took over shows we have strength in depth and we can give teams a game.Hope the injuries we suffered aren't long term and will be available for the Easter period.
