Dons News Posted April 4, 2019 Share Posted April 4, 2019 The Dons return to league action against Coventry Bears at the Keepmoat Stadium this weekend. Richard Horne’s side have won two and lost two of their opening four league games, and come into this one on the back of a 46-6 victory over Featherstone Lions in the Coral Challenge Cup fourth round. The Bears earnt back to back wins in their opening two league games with victories over Newcastle Thunder and West Wales Raiders. They have though since been defeated by Keighley Cougars and Hunslet respectively. Who’s the gaffer? Tom Tsang is a highly rated young coach given the work done with Coventry since he arrived at the club. After adapting to the third tier, Tsang ensured that the Bears became more competitive last season and tested themselves against some of the best in the competition. After beating early season favourites Newcastle already this season, Coventry and Tsang have given themselves a genuine belief that they can more than match anyone in Betfred League One. Ones to watch Nathan Conroy The hooker joined the club ahead of the 2019 campaign after leaving Keighley. Still only 23, Conroy started his career with Bradford Bulls and played a couple of Super League games before going out on loan to Oxford and Dewsbury Rams. A permanent move to Dewsbury followed before his move to Cougar Park. After the financial troubles at Keighley, Conroy could prove to be an astute signing for the Bears. Chris Barratt Barratt is the club’s longest serving player after agreeing a new deal at Butts Park Arena at the end of last season. The start of 2018 saw the forward suffer a broken leg which ruled him out long-term, but he returned to steady the Bears’ ship towards the end of the year. As the club captain, Barratt isn’t too far away from making his 100th appearance for the club, which shows his commitment to the cause. Kameron Pearce-Paul The 22-year-old is a versatile outside back who is equally as comfortable in the centre position or on the wing. After coming through the ranks with current Super League side London Broncos in 2016, Pearce-Paul enjoyed loan spells with Hemel Stags, London Skolars and Oldham before moving to Coventry on a temporary basis in 2018. He impressed with eight tries in 24 appearances, and the move was made a permanent one ahead of the 2019 campaign. Last time out The Dons progressed in the Coral Challenge Cup with a 38-16 victory against the Bears at the Keepmoat Stadium last month. Coventry were in the game and drew level just after half-time, before the Dons ran out comfortable winners.
