Your clubs 'cringe' moment

London have released a promo for the upcoming Wakefield game, asking fans to come and celebrate our "1994 Premiership Final Winning Squad" - only problem is we didn't win that game, we lost to Workington. This fairy fundamental mistake has been pointed out to the club, but they've continued to make the claim.

That is peak Broncos.

Years ago, I sent in a pic of my newborn children with some text so they could put it in the programme (here are my children, fans of the future, that sort of thing). The text was written in the first person and they just copied it straight in. Looked so dumb. The picture was very cute though.

I would suggest the 1985/86 season when Halifax won the League, with barely a non-Australian player on the pitch, an Aussie coach, probably an Aussie Groundsman, Kit-man & tea-lady too, while selling VB, XXXX & Bundaberg at the bar.

I would suggest you're confusing the 1984-85 and 1985-86 seasons. In 84-85, Halifax, newly promoted from Division Two, had a team full of Australians (18, I think, including Martin Bella, Michael Hagan and Paul Langmack). They were signed because the English players who'd secured promotion weren't deemed good enough to prevent Halifax continuing their yo-yo existence between the two divisions. The Halifax team that won the league the following season included only three Australians (because the rules on 'imports' had changed): Cavill Heugh, Joe Kilroy and Geoff Robinson.

The Tony Abbott era. He had no real money but tried to buy the Shay etc and push Fax deep in to debt! A chancer that pulled the wool over many eyes at Halifax RLFC and elsewhere with his dealings.

Just as well supporters of Halifax's 'wendyball' (your description not mine) team saw right through Abbott. Their efforts ensured The Shay became protected by Asset of Community Value status, and effectively scuppered Abbott's doubtless unscrupulous designs on the ground. The relationship between the football and rugby league clubs has gone seriously downhill since the latter began sharing The Shay. So much so, many Halifax Town fans who used also to watch the Thrum Hallers now wouldn't be seen dead supporting RL at The Shay.

Arena '84, Barracudas and Piranhas. Further explanation unnecessary.

One other thing that sticks in my mind from this Fartown era: the outgoing Paul Dixon describing Huddersfield RLFC as his "biggest disappointment". Dixon, with some candour, lifted the lid on the amateurishness of the club. I recall him mentioning how the players would arrive at the changing rooms on matchday to find their kit damp and unironed.

Being part of the smallest crowd to watch a Huddersfield first team home fixture: 303 for a midweek 32-32 draw with Keighley on 17/4/86.

When Chris Warren was doing the matchday announcing at Bronquins, he would throw in a little nickname for the players as he called out the starting XIII. I can't remember any of them, but it would have been stuff like Scott "The Wizard of Oz" Hill. You get the idea.

I say I can't remember any of them but I do recall one.

I remember an away trip to Huddersfield-Sheffield in 2000 and hearing the 'crowd' roar for Gene 'the genie' Ngamu after every goal kick.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

When Warrington signed Ben Westwood and Nathan Wood from Wakefield we paraded them on the pitch just before the start of the next home game... versus Wakefield.

It was such an insult to Wakey and their fans.

Haha I was at that game - Wood was getting boo'd and he kept turning his back to the fans and bending over, then got his ###### out.  Really poor from both him and the Wire club.  Funny to look back on now though

He was a good player in his prime but he'd let himself go by the time he got to Shudds.

And also the other way, I couldn’t give a toss about the football now.

The general attitude of the Football fans is a big reason why many Fax fans dont have much time for the football club. And when you look at how many of the Football fans have been arrested for violence in the past 10 years, I wouldnt want them at Rugby games anyway.

It used to be Leeds with Ronnie the Rhino that exploited the mascot publicity stakes but Wolfie has certainly blown him into the weeds recently, there's a big lesson to be learnt by SL/RFL in marketing and communications there, get them into childrens TV programs and things would snowball?

Warrington's social media game is top class. Pretty much everyone else's that I see are cliched and boring.

Not as cringe-y as it appears at first glance. Jefferson, our wolf mascot from last season, has been stolen. Gordo is the replacement. He cost a mere $200 to outfit, Poundland-style. Since being introduced on Thursday, Wolfpack have garnered a front-page story in the Toronto Star (readership >300,000) and two radio spots, including a very funny interview on CBC's Friday afternoon drive-home program Here and Now. In a city where many people haven't yet heard of the Wolfpack, this is as clever a piece of marketing as you'll ever see. Huge media buy that cost pennies.

Your clubs 'cringe' moment

I'm a Salford fan, so my cringe moment involves a match by match, season by season signing by signing, day to day, moment by moment analysis and telephone book sized directory with cross referenced index and Anglo-Saxon expletive glossary.

But the front cover is of Sale Sharks at Our Stadium!

This book is on sale at the Red Devil's Outlet right now!
