My first Wembley Final as an eight year old, and what a game. Thanks for that, Gooleboy. I was 14 approaching 15 at the time of the Hunslet final. Sadly, my dad had died suddenly in early 1965 and I didn't feel I could ask Mum if I could go to Wembley, albeit that it would probably have been quite safe on an organised coach trip, as I felt it would make the day too stressful for her. So, having seen the semi-final live, I watched the final on television (not ours, as we didn't yet have one) During lockdown, I undertook a massive clear-out of old, domestic paperwork (for instance, why did I still have a receipt for an electric toaster that had itself long gone?) I found some old school reports, including for the 1964-65 academic year. All the teachers thought I showed some promise as I began to move towards A levels, yet none mentioned the trauma I had experienced of losing a parent when in my early teens - tough times! My son gave me a replica Wigan 1965 cup final shirt for my birthday last month. It's very comfortable!
