Gould and Panthers part company

Recommended Posts

He seems to have talked the talk for years about the great things Penrith were going to achieve but on the field there seems to have been little change. He does seem to have achieved a lot off the field with the training facility etc.

Hmmmm...whilst he might not be to everyones liking, I would suggest that two NRL premierships (and a losing GF appearance), turning the Roosters around from a team that had made the play-offs once in 11 years previously and 6 Origin series wins and a draw from 8 series is not exactly 'no action'

You clearly have no idea. He basically saved the Penrith club. The Club had debts of over 100 Million Dollars. Thats now around 30 million thanks to him. Gould then transformed the Panthers in to a strong club with a very strong junior base. The Premiership is missing thats all. But to say he has done nothing is just laughable and shows how little you know.

I'd love to see him in the SL. He'd certainly ruffle a few feathers.

I would like to see him at the NRL/ARLC as he has great knowledge especially about bush football and development that is being ignored. He does talk some ######, but the game needs somebody like Gould maybe as an advised. Greenberg and Beatie are clueless for me and dont understand the clubs or the games need often.

This too

https://www.penrithpanthers.com.au/news/2019/04/10/panthers-primed-to-break-junior-league-record/

”In 2019 Penrith will field a staggering 9000 junior players across a record 580 teams, including 54 female sides.”

Yes . His overall legacy is huge in the game . He put the Penrith house on a sound footing , but despite his denial he will get the failure to deliver the premiership thrown at him . Although it’s bloody difficult in that comp ! They’ve certainly produced some stellar junior set ups and pathways though and got high standard facilities to use as a springboard to long term success ... He oversaw all that from the club being a basket case in debt  .In this context alone though you do feel Cleary exerting his own control over the club was a factor and with gus being such a high profile dominating presence

Phil Gould is talented in many ways, but he also has a cruel and nasty streak which upsets a lot of players he has coached, not to mention other coaches. He has had terrible personal relations with coaches Ricky Stuart and Ivan Cleary for starters.

Having a terrible relationship with Ricky Stuart isn’t exactly unusual is it?

Hear from the man himself in his own podcast 'Six Tackles With Gus'.  This week's edition is superb (as always) and he covers the Panthers situation in some depth.

I gave up listening to that a bit back .The presenter seems bedazzled by Gus , agreeing with everything he says like a star struck fan and hanging off his every word while just setting Gus up to put the world to rights with guru like wisdom
