Should have stayed with St. Helens.

Not really sure with that one.   If he was going to go off the rails again at some point I’m glad it wasn’t over here.   We only ever get publicity when something scandalous happens, and the anti-RL papers would be all over that.

Is this for that attempt on Lineham in the playoff semi?

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Do you think they would take him back if they were desperate?

It was alleged that Barba’s partner didn’t want to leave St Helens as Ben was as far away from his mates at home as physically possible and she feared he would do something daft upon returning home. It’s also alleged that his group of mates called themselves “The Epic Bender Crew”, which has a slightly different meaning here.

Maybe there’s some truth in that rumour now.

Feel for the lad in a way but there’s also only so many chances you can get before your bridges are burnt beyond repair.

Since Holbrook's taken over, I think Saints fans have forgotten what the word "desperate" means.

Give them a couple of defeats and most of them will revert to that mode, and won’t be seen for dust.

In Australia a “bender” is a wild drinking session. I just looked up what it means in the UK, and yes, it has a very different meaning!

I don't know why he even went back...he was doing so swell and now he has really screwed it all up again!

Arrest warrant issued for exiled NRL star Ben Barba

An arrest warrant has been prepared for banned NRL star Ben Barba after he did not show up to a North Queensland court.

  • Former NRL star Ben Barba is expected to appear in court on Tuesday on public nuisance offences following an incident at a Townsville Casino in January that cost him a lucrative deal with the North Queensland Cowboys.
Barba will be required to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court after he failed to present himself to the court on Monday.

The Courier-Mail reports the arrest warrant is on file, but will only be served if the former Broncos and Bulldogs star fails to attend the court at 11am (AEST) on Tuesday.

Channel 9 reported on Monday night Barba failed to appear in court because his lawyer Campbell MacCallum was unable to catch the flight he needed to make it to Mackay for the scheduled appearance.

29-year-old Barba was sacked by the Cowboys in February without playing a game over allegations he was violent towards his partner Ainslie Currie in the Australia Day incident.

Ms Currie did not press charges.

The 2012 Dally M medallist had been offered a lifeline to return to the NRL with the Cowboys after stints with French rugby union and the English Super League.

However, the NRL gave the father of four a lifetime ban after viewing CCTV footage of the incident outside the casino.

Police allege Barba threw rocks at Currie, who is the mother of their four children.

The incident resulted in the Cowboys ripping up Barba’s contract, reportedly worth $300,000 for the 2019 season. The NRL then deregistered him in a move that prohibited any rival clubs from trying to sign the speedster.

NRL boss Todd Greenberg said at the time the game would refuse to register any future contract of Barba’s if he was found guilty.

“We have run out of patience and tolerance for misbehaviour off the field,” Greenberg said in February.

“Violence against women is the very top of that list. If you’re violent against a woman you can expect to be removed from the game. It starts now.

“The Cowboys have acted quickly and decisively to terminate Ben Barba’s contract. That’s a club showing the leadership that’s required.

“I haven’t seen the footage as yet but if it shows violence towards a woman then really there’s no debate. Ben Barba will be out of the NRL immediately and I can’t see him ever returning.”

The 29-year-old was already on his last chance after being forced out of the game in 2016 after recording his second illicit drugs strike following Cronulla’s premiership win.

He is now playing football with the Mackay Rangers in the Mackay Premier League.

I feel the majority of Aussies come to SL as they can't get a decent deal in The NRL.

As soon as one is on offer they go back.

Theres some exceptions to the rule however this applies to many.

Barba got alot of issues, and hopefully he can straighten himself out with the right help.

However I agree he's burnt too many bridges for RL.

LRL reporting:

Former St Helens and NRL star Ben Barba has been sentenced to community service after pleading guilty to a charge of public nuisance.

The news comes after an alleged incident with his parter in a Townsville Casino back in January. The altercation led to the 29-year-old being sacked by North Queensland without playing a game.

Mackay Magistrates Court were told that Barba grabbed his partner of 16 years by the throat, pinned her against a wall and charged her to the ground.

The court were also told how he used a shoe to hit her in the head during the heating incident at the Ville Casino in Queensland.

As a result of the altercation, both the NRL and Super League have blocked Barba from making a return to the sport in the future.

Barba, a Dally M Medallist, also pleaded guilty to two charges of public nuisance and one of obstructing police after an unrelated incident at his parent’s home earlier this month.

Speaking outside court, Barba said: “It’s a mistake I’ve made and I’ve paid enough. I’ve lost my whole career in this whole situation.

“I’m not saying my actions were right but what’s done is done, the only thing I can do is move forward and get on with my life.”

Ben.  Yes, you have paid.  But just because you have, you cant keep doing it and not paying!!.

Sounds like he thinks he's the victim in this.

So they've blocked him before he was ruled guilty by the courts?

This wasn’t a simple guilty/not guilty in the courts incident. There was CCTV footage of the casino incident which I believe the club/NRL saw and it wasn’t pretty.

His wife didn’t want to press charges (for whatever reason) hence why the charges weren’t more serious.

There was no mistaking  his violence towards his partner (on the CCTV footage) and the NRL are desperately trying to take a stand on this, hence their decision to ban him

A bender does mean a drinking session in the UK, the alternative meaning is a gay reference but is rarely used these days.
