The broadcasters are missing out as much as anyone when there’s no play so I doubt they would have an issue with games having reserve days.

More a question of red tape, logistics and contractual small print. I reckon the actual broadcast crew would be pretty happy to have some action to show.

But Sky don't get any more cricket to show from the match being abandoned without a ball being bowled.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

This is the same Sky Cricket that lost the IPL rights, doesn’t show CPL or most other global T20 leagues, didn’t bother to show England Women on tour even though there was footage, and can’t be bothered to show domestic games even though it has exclusive rights.

Like I said, red tape, logistics and contractual small print. As soon as the minutiae of big-money international broadcasting gets involved, it goes beyond what anyone would call common sense.

So we all lose out.

There have been a few good games but this is turning into a bit of a farce.

Even worse than games being rained off is when the sun's out and Australia win...

Sorry to slightly derail the World Cup thread with a general cricket point, but:

Is any other country in the world doing the Hundred as a format or is it just in England?

Just in England

It’s what happens when you have ridiculous time rules and no reserve days.

Tournament still manages to last months.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Yup. Fewer teams than before as well.

Hopefully India v Pakistan on Sunday will not be rain affected. It's at Manchester so always a possibility ?

It's always one of the best games. I think India has won every time they have met in the world cup.  They are always well supported here too and in good form.

Apperiaching totday with a sense of trepidation. West Indies going from outsiders to serious challengers for the cup. Today is definately a win the toss and bowl day with the pacemen looking forward to bowling on a wicket that, while under cover, has "sweated" and will have early moisture.

I hate to agree with George Dobell on anything, but I too believe the loser of this match will struggle to reach the semi-final. Rain has indeed affected the tournament as I predicted earlier in the thread, what is significant is te number of abandoned matches and the impact this has on the table in respect of the number of odd points sides have now and the lessening impact of net run rate that would have favoured England.

Put it this way, West Indies win today and England need to win two out of three against Australia, India and New Zealand tomake the semi's. England win today, West Indies are 1.5 games behind England. The rain has also meant the majority of sides save Afghanistan and, not that they would admit it, South Africa are still in the hunt. so every game matters (Where have I heard that before...)

Lot of Media talk on how this tournament is under the radar here in the UK owing to a lack of Free to Air (FTA) coverage. Maybe, just maybe, this along with the upcoming calamity thart is The Hundred, will be the flash that lights up reality and  leads to the removal of those administrators who know the price of everything and the value of nothing. Less (money_) is sometimes more in the long term. but I am not going to hold my breath here..

Gayle gobbling up and smashing away any errant balls from Archer and Woakes so far as the West Indies are 41/1 after 10 overs.

Gayle is 33 (29) and Hope 4 (28) with Lewis dismissed earlier by Woakes, and unfortunately for England, Gayle was dropped at 3rd man by Wood after skying it early in his knock.

Roy has gone off with a hamstring injury seemingly.

Delicately poised game so far.

Didn't stay that way. Big 8-wicket win for England.

West Indies were very poor. I could feel Curtley Ambrose's anger from 200 miles away - no plan, poor attitude and, unless they sort themselves out, not qualifying for the last 4.

Very impressive England performance in the last two games, Bangladesh batted out of the game in CardIff and West Indies failing to make enough runs at Southamption. In both cases the matches against in form opponents largely settled before the interval. With two players injured early wickets could have been problematic but Joe Root stepped up with an unbeaten hundred . In each of England world cup games thus far win or lose someone in the batting line up has come to the party. Its often the case that when England beat the opposition  this is always explained as its  because their opponents failed to play to their potentia,l but in these matches England did not let them play to their potential and you give credit to the three lions when due.

Australia should claima comfortable win at the Oval against Sri Lanka today which will lead into tomorrows main event...

The India v Pakistan game has been described as the biggest sporting rivalry in the world, certainly there are two things unique to the contest. Firstly, the two sides are countrties actually in a state of undeclared war with each other over Kashmir and secondly the ICC actually admits to rigging the draw to ensure India play Pakistan at the World Cup. bearing in mind that neither country plays each other as they should do under Crickets Future Tours programme. Adverts like this on Pakistan TV add a bit more spice to the encounter......

Without wanting to go OTT would any other team have won so comfortably if they had lost their captain; their number 4 bat and one of their openers mid game?
