Kangaroos reject match payment increase

[In an article about State of Origin payments, this was an interesting note]

"The RLPA also floated the idea of increasing payments to players involved in internationals, but again the players passed. The Kangaroos deserved credit for taking a pay cut and splitting the money with Tonga last year so their historic Test in front of a packed Mt Smart Stadium proceeded.

The Kangaroos earn $20,000 a Test, which is less than Origin but more than their Wallabies counterparts, who pocket $10,000 for each international, as well as the Socceroos ($7000)."

Im a Trade Union man through and through, and you should get paid for your work - but when we struggle to afford any International Tests involving the Kangaroos, the RLPA should think about the end goals of their objectives.

Kudos to the senior Australian players here.

I am not a Trade Union Man at all but respect to the SOO players not taking more money and wanting that money to be given to more needy parts of the Game.

Talent is secondary to whether players are confident.

Yes fair play to the players for seeing the wider picture and looking after those that are less well off.

The $20,000 match figure for kangaroos test matches is based on the TV deal amount and should be funded as such. If not it should be based upon the amount that is generated by test match Rugby League. A figure can't be based on something that isn't going to be used to contribute towards it and certainly shouldn't be a hindrance to matches being played.

To be fair I've never seen anyone accuse NRL players as being insular. They seem to relish playing for their country and often plead to play more internationally, for whoever that may be. The gripe about being insular is more to do with the governing body and it's outlook.

The Players Union copped plenty regarding the Denver test

Indeed that too, they seem too concerned with sucking up to the NRL at times.

But yet again, it seems the Union is not aligned with what the players are thinking or wanting..........................totally out of touch, sadly like a lot of unions
