Why isn’t the Northern Hemisphere playing International matches this week?

I'll give the real reason...

The NRL spat their dummy out over the Denver test last year so decided to punish the RFL by taking away the possibility of playing NZ mid season and arranged (and funded) NZ v Tonga

Apparently that's not the case.

"The New Zealand-Tonga game is being run by the Duco Events, who have been engaged by the New Zealand Rugby League. They’re the guys who held the NRL Auckland Nines."

I know that. However of we are talking about low level internationals then that is a completely different kettle of fish than what is happening with the Pacific Nations.

You get stronger nations by having more eligible players playing at the top level. This is what the Pacific Islands have shown. Playing more international matches with Championship and League 1 players does little to make a nation more competitive for the top level. These matches should undoubtedly happen between each other, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, but it's of little benefit to a nation like England to be playing these countries. There is absolutely no reason for England not to be playing France though, that is unforgivable.

I agree, and said earlier, you should easily have England v France

I also have no issue with an England v "Celtic nations" either. There are super league players qualifying for the celtic nations some of which will expect to have a shot at GB.. Lauchlin Coote, Regan Grace, Morgan Knowles, Ben Flower, Michael McIllorum etc and to help raise publicity for the GB tour

surely both could be done too England V France in France, England V Celtic nations in the UK (not Leigh) ..

IMO its not about a benefit to "England" as such but a benefit to the game to be playing internationals and to have people know about them it helps the game grow if there is more of an international presence.

Thanks I didnt realize that Duco are running the NZ - Tonga game and NZ vs GB games later in the year. Duco is run by David Higgins but until recently former Kiwi Rugby League player Dean Lonergan was the co owner. Other than NRL Auckland Nines Duco most famous for promoting Former WBO Heavyweight Boxer Joseph Parker.

Because Sky (our great God), don't want to fund an International, they don't want our great game to be seen as International, Sky wants RL to be seen as pie eating M62 fodder. Who broadcast the last World Cup? BBC, not Sky, they are not interested in an International game.

The RFL/ESL didn't even bother too arrange a free weekend for anyone to play tests...

...plus last year the Celtic nations didn't arrange anything cos they genuinely thought the RLIF was going to arrange games for them...

That speaks volumes. You could cut out the rest.

Until we get serious about sorting out our own backyard in the Northern Hemisphere, we have no right to criticise the Southern Hemisphere.

Agree. People moan that the NRL organise games for the PI nations on their terms but that’s better than no game at all. We need to set aside the same weekend as the NRL for an international round even if the SL organise it around themselves a la the NRL.

Noticed the other day that the Lebenon training shirts had the NRL logo on them, as do the Jerseys they'll play in. Assume this is because these games are invitational and put on by the NRL. But just seemed a bit weird to have an NRL logo on an International jersey.
