NCL Attendances

Recommended Posts

Hi, what sort of crowds are there at NCL games please? I’ve looked online and can’t find anything. Is it the case that some of the top teams are as big as some League One teams but for whatever reason they don’t want to progress into that division?

I (and others) do a headcount at NCL games I (they) attend - mainly because attendance figures are never published. Four-figure crowds very much the exception!

We used to keep a record and publish it in the results section in our matchday programme, but hasn't been getting done past couple of years by the looks of it. We (Hunslet CP) average about 180 (based on paying spectators) but can be as low as 70 in bad weather and easily 400+ in better weather. All that said we're expecting upwards of 500 this weekend in great weather against top of the table West Hull - who will bring a fair few over themselves I should imagine.

Why are HCP separate from Hunslet (League One version)? I can see you wear the same colours and I know their nickname is the Parksiders so what’s the history of the split, if there was one?

Never been to a Cumbrian derby but went to the Leigh derby between Miners and Easts in October 2011 and the attendance was 578.The League weekly and I think the league Express gave the attendances in those days and suddenly stopped in 2013?

They are great when they are competitive, many of the players have worked together or went to school together and are friends, as are many of the spectators, so it makes for a real rivalry. This weekends game between Egremont and Wath Brow should be a real humdinger. I would have Egremont as slight favourites but it could go either way.

Just because I don't know doesn't mean I don't understand

I wondered who that was with the abacus at games ?

That's an impressive list, and also a bit geeky (no offence intended)!

Warriors are an amalgamation of a few clubs.

Carlsberg don't do Soldiers, but if they did, they would probably be Brits.

Hunslet (League one club) are semi professional and are separate from with Hunslet Club Parkside (formerly Hunslet Old Boys) who are an amateur club. Hunslet Warriors are an amalgamation of Bison Sports, Brassmoulders and Garden Gate. I think that's correct according to my records.

What I have witnessed in summer rugby is that even wen their has been a large crowd the clubhouses arnt as busy as they were in winter as people either sit outside with a beer or get off to go to other activities, unlike winter wen everyone went in the club for a few beers and socialised

Yeah so I can see a few people have replied and they’re quite right. Just to add a little more, we’ve moved to the ‘Ozzie’ style green and gold since the Hunslet Old Boys/Parkside Juniors merger (2014). Old Boys colours were similar before that just with more white in there too. The new colours reflect the emblem (my avatar) of The Hunslet club, not necessarily Hunslet RLFC, whose official colours are Myrtle and Flame. Nickname wise Hunslet RLFC are the Parksiders - their old stadium was near to where the Parkside Juniors played, Hence their name. Our nickname is and always will be ‘Old Boys’. Hope this helps

Thanks. So are the two clubs on friendly terms or do you see each other as rivals, or neither? Hi

Yeah pretty friendly. I think we could make closer ties in terms of player development and bashed heads a couple of times over playing friendlies but overall it's not a bad relationship. Hunslet Warriors on the other hand......

I jest, all us Hunslet teams get on just fine, until we play each other haha.
