Ash Golding in advanced talks with Huddersfield according to Matthew Shaw in League Express. Also John Davidson in League Weekly fuelling the widely-discussed story about Ryan carr not being with us next season.

IMHO Golding should stick around a while longer - we're going to need a SL-standard fullback when we're playing in the SL next year!

I like the positive optimisim, but I think we just need to enjoy the ride this year. Who knows what the next two weeks brings, but whatever the outcome, I think in years to come we might be all getting misty-eyed about the season when we had Cam King, Ash Golding, Connor Jones, Dane Chisholm and various others all playing well under a coach they clearly love. It's been a really enjoyable year regardless of what happens from now on.

It's actually possible, by late September, to name a starting 13 (plus 2 subs) of players already signed up for next season without even considering DR players:

1 Render
2 Blackmore
3 Hardcastle
4 Minns
5 Whylie
6 Jouffret
7 Chisholm
8 Susino
9 Parata
10 Bussey
11 Davies
12 Day
13 Lockwood

subs Cooper and Harrison
Certainly a much more stable situation than this time last year.

Looking already at this early stage you are putting a good squad together for next season and you could be the team to beat if you don't go up,good luck this weekend hope you make the final.

What do people think about  Blackmore, certainly a great try scoring record at Sheffield.

My view FWIW from his first spell at Fev and the odd bits I've seen of him at Sheffield...

Strengths
- when he's on form he's really good bringing the ball out in yardage from dummy half, probably one of the best in the division
- good finisher
Weaknesses
-can be very shaky on defence especially his positioning
- inconsistency - big difference between when he's in form and not at his best.

By all accounts he's had a good year at Sheffield (I remember League Weekly suggested Salford were interested in him earlier this year) so let's hope he continues that good form for us. We presumably can't count on Briscoe next year and having wings who can churn out yards from dummy half/first receiver is so important in the modern game.

That side on paper would see off most in the championship , it might just be your turn next season ?

1. Render was very good at full back on numerous occasions.
2. Lockwood is absolutely a modern 13, given that it's just a number for one of the three starting middles.

Render has never let us down when asked to play any position.Agree about your comments re Locky at loose forward, only a handfull of proper ball playing loose forwards left in the Leagues under the modern game.Props or second row could do the job as could your back up number nine who would probably be nearest to an old fashioned 13.

In one of the least eventful stays at Featherstone, Jake Spedding is set to move on after (I think) one reserve appearance and no 1st team games, it has been announced that he has signed for Widnes for next year. Was presumably always just here for cover in case we had a rash of injuries at the backend of the season, not sure he was ever quite what we'd be looking for at centre to be honest, good luck to him.

Couple of snippets from my man at the club:

- Ryan Carr is confirmed as going at the end of the year.

- Connor Carey wants to stay but we can't/won't match a couple of Super League offers he's had. Huddersfield, Salford and London the clubs mentioned.

- Cameron King would stay next year if we were promoted, but we can't afford him otherwise.

What about Paul March?he knows the players and the playing structures did a good job with our reserves. He has experience of coaching and although he was a bit abrasive as a player does a good job with the kids. And we can afford him.

Marchy did a very good job with Keighley in the Championship in 2013, the last time Fev won the league by beating them with a last minute try at Lawkholme Lane on the last day of the season after the Cougars were leading by two points. Unfortunately it sent Keighley down but both sides only needed a draw to achieve their goal. I can remember Andy Hay saying that he was shouting to Marchy in the final minute to concede a penalty under the sticks but whether he contemplated this we'll never know, because later in the set Fev moved the ball out wide to score in the corner and win the game. Brilliant display by Keighley in a valiant effort to stay up with limited resources.
