It doesn't look great does it?

Though it has to be said Mayfield is probably as good a venue as the likes of Oldham or Sheffield.

I wouldn't like to think this is some nefarious mind games at play and that Rochdale have once again had issues with the stadium/Football club.

This is the second time the soccer club have forced Rochdale to postpone or move venues at short notice. This whole saga needs to be resolved once and for all and by the looks of it that might end up with Rochdale finding a new home

the AJ Bell stadium was willing to host.

For £8k apparently!  The game should be a great local occasion at Mayfield, with both Hornets & Swinton having former Mayfield players.

Perhaps Rochdale and Oldham should look hard at the problems they have and produce one stadium for them both... and one club between them to play in it.

Worth mentioning that Mayfield, as the home of Rochdale Town, failed the FA ground grading for the North West Counties Football League, whereas Whitebank, as the home of AVRO, passed the same test after the work they did to restore the playing perimeter amongst other things.

Lets face it the attendance is likely to be around the same as Mayfield get so no real problem there, these clubs are semi pro in name only and when the money dries up they will all find their true level?

A bit like sl

sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move forward

Whoever negotiated the rental deal for the stadium ought to be fired. And the club itself is not without blame, for accepting such a terrible deal. Unless it was all they could afford. Which is just... sad.

The RFL shouldn't be driven by money when it's going to put a clubs future in jeapody.

The RFL is in such dire straits it would sell it's granny if it could. Losing some club's will be seen as a cost saving exercise ?

That's what they need to look hard at.  As it is, they are not looking at anything.

Of course they could decide turn amateur.

We know this just isn't going to happen, aside from the 'over my dead body brigade'  between them they haven't got 2 halfpennies to rub together nor any saleable assets ie ground so it's just wither and die for them and many others?

Make that four times this season. The pre season friendly with Mayfield and the league games with York, Batley and now Swinton all fell foul of the " Pitch Conditions, High Winds  etc "

I would think at the end of this season when it is finally decided what is going to happen with S.L. and the Championship we will see the demise of a few clubs if it is decided League 1 are getting no money.Rochdale, Swinton, Oldham, West Wales ,Keighley etc, etc  seem to me to be in dire straits where the money is concerned. Also look at the farcical decision in Cumbria where Workington were promised a new ground, World Cup fixtures allotted to the County and now the Council have reneged on their promise which will cost the clubs and businessess in Cumbria valuable money which could have been used to stabilise Rugby League up there.I am afraid the lower league will be going to the wall unless the R.F.L get their finger out and realise what is happening before it is too late. Unless of course that is their cunning plan.

I think its another case of the RFL taking practical decisions at short notice with the facts as they know it.  Now that can be a good thing, however it also means there is little consistency or precedent.  This can be good for some clubs caught in a position, but leads to fans wondering what is going on and shouting 'they got away with it' etc.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!
