Tom Holmes returns to Huddersfield

Recommended Posts

Now confirmed by the club via Twitter. Bad news for us but not altogether surprising.

Who fills his shoes though partnering Chisholm? McLelland probably favourite having played at Fax, but other options include recalling Watson Boas, promoting Punchard or Richardson, or seeing if Wakefield would let Ben Reynolds go out on loan again. Also the possibility of Bussey when he's fit again (though for me there are still question marks about him being asked to defend on the edge if he's going to play half back).

It would appear that the options are:-

1. Recall Boas.

2. Another loan signing, Reynolds for example.

3. Use DR.

4 Promote from within from the reserves.

5. Play a player out of position, i.e. Bussey when he is fit/not suspended.

For me we have a player on the books that has gained valuable game time and has a point to prove whilst being away from the club. Option 1 is what I think we should be doing.

Can't see Wakefield releasing Reynolds for a full month while they are only 4 points off the drop? Boas was ok and is a good finisher but not the best as an organiser, though he might fit in well alongside Chisholm? Who would play down the right though, as both seem to prefer the left?

I'm suspecting option 2.

I'd like to see Richardson given a chance, but suspect that this will be seen as too much of a risk. I'm not convinced by Watson, so I guess that will be someone to come in, on loan at a guess.

I'm sure I'll think of something funny to say soon.

I find it strange that nobody has complained that you didn't sign a decent half back on a permanent deal at the start of the season.

DR/Loan rules O.K.

We signed two PNG International half backs. Sadly, for whatever reason, neither seemed to have settled enough to perform as expected.

1. We signed two PNG half backs, but they were a punt and didn't work out.

2. There is a shortage of quality half backs in SL, never mind the Championship. Unless you have the financial resources of Toronto, it's very hard to tie down a decent half back to a permanent Championship deal.

There are about 150 quality players attached to SL clubs who are only going to get into their 1st team through injury or suspension. These guys...Briscoe, Holmes, Sutcliffe, Golding etc... would just be in the twilight zone if loans/DR didn't exist.

I totally agree with your comments.

I was referring to some of your more demanding fans.

I think the forward thinking of the powers that be are good. They seem to have their hands firmly on the steering wheel to take us in the right direction with the best outfit we can gather together. All the players that have played for us under whatever the system they have been signed have all given their best and should be congratulated for their efforts together with the coach for motivating them.
